Jon Jones Looks to Beat Daniel Cormier Again!

As far as rematches go, this is one of the most competitive if not the most talented. Daniel Cormier is set to meet Jon Jones in a rematch that was more than year in the making. The journey between these two fighters since the first time they met is no less than astronomical.
Daniel Cormier lost to Jon Jones – then the light heavyweight champion – in a hard fought decision, Cormier was edged in most aspects of the fight and looked like he got tired. Since then Cormier rebounded with two great performances against Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson, getting the title along the way.

For Jon Jones, it was in reverse, after convincingly defeating Cormier, Jones was involved in an hit-and-run incident which saw him spiral out of control. The UFC had no choice but to strip Jones of his title and look from the outside and see how Daniel Cormier – The man Jones beat – take his belt without even beating him.

The rivalry is on another level now, both fighters are on different footing, Jones is now the challenger after making the wrong choices in life but at the same time knowing he never lost to Cormier and that he was the better man. Cormier is now the champion, knowing full well that he can rebound from a disappointing loss, knowing however that he never had to go through Jones to get to the title.

Jones though is very confident that he can repeat what he did versus Cormier and even belittled Cormier’s power in an interview with UFC unfiltered:

“The funny thing about him saying that is, Daniel Cormier doesn’t punch hard, I think the only person I can recall him knocking out is ‘Bigfoot’ Silva. I’m not trying to offend ‘Bigfoot’ Silva but, I mean, he’s not known to have the strongest chin in the game. So, you name anybody else who he knocked out with one punch and walked away, I don’t think I’ve seen it.”

“In my fight with Daniel Cormier, he always talks about how I was working his body and I kicked him in the ribs and I kneed him in the ribs, and these body shots that really sent a shockwave going through his body,” Jones said. “But at no point in the fight did one of his punches do anything to me, or kicks. At no point in the fight did he get me to bleed. At no point in the fight did he get me to lose my breath or to look up at the clock out of frustration. At no point did he wobble me with a punch. I mean, Daniel Cormier caught me with like 60 uppercuts in that fight, and I’m exaggerating. Not one of those uppercuts did anything to me.

“Never made me stumble. None of his kicks made me back up or stop moving forward. So, he’s trying paint this picture of me not being a powerful guy, but I kicked his ass. And I actually hurt him with strikes, where he did nothing to me. I’ve heard him in interviews say that he’s going to walk me down and take me down right away because obviously I don’t have the stopping power to stop him from walking forward. But the reality is, if I wanted to go out there and walk him down, take him down for the sixth time, he doesn’t have the stopping power to stop me.”

Cormier though, in UFC Counterpoint acknowledged that he got tired in their first fight and that he did not anticipate Jones’ size and that he won’t make the same mistake again.
This is indeed a rematch for the ages.

Is Jones ready to cement his all-time great status? or is Daniel Cormier ready to steal the thunder to become the first fighter ever to legitimately beat Jon “Bones” Jones.
