Friday night inside of the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles, Golden Boy prospect, Vyacheslav “Slava” Shabranskyy, 16-0, 13 KO’s took on Oscar Riojas, 10-5, 3 KO’s, from Laredo, Texas in an 8 round Light Heavyweight bout. Slava came out the first few rounds and out boxed the slower Riojas, utilizing his jab and longer reach to control the pace. In the 3rd, Shabranskyy caught Riojas with a straight left, flooring him. Oscar made it to his feet and was then hit with another solid right forcing the referee to step in and stop the bout at the 1:43 mark of the 3rd. “In the first round, I wanted to feel him out, find out what he had as a fighter. By the second round I started to expose his weaknesses and knew that I could finish the fight early, and that was what my corner was telling me to do, said Shabranskyy. I try to make sure I listen to my corner as they can see things that I can’t. Luckily we were able to finish the fight early and I am looking forward to the next fight.” Shabranskyy moves to 17-0, 14 KO’s.

In the Co-main that featured two local lightweights, South Centrals’ Ivan “Striker” Delgado, 9-0-1, 2 KO’s battled Alejandro Ochoa, 7-11-2, 1 KO, from Santa Ana, California. Ivan came out firing on all cylinders early on in the back and forth battle, Striker landed a left hook leaving Ochoa stumbling and off balance. Ochoa’s glove touched the canvas and Delgado was awarded a knockdown. Round 2 gave fans another all action packed round as both Delgado and Ochoa exchanged heavy shots. Ochoa seemed to be stalking Delgado but “Striker” continued to land shots in a round that was very hard to score. Rounds 3 and 4 had Ochoa continuing to pressure Delgado but “Striker” landed big counter shots every time Ochoa would come inside. At the end of the 4th, Delgado caught Ochoa with a big uppercut leaving him hurt and on the defensive for the rest of the round. The middle rounds had Delgado beating Ochoa to the punch, then at the 1:12 mark of round 7, Delgado caught Ochoa with a big hook knocking him out. “I kept going really hard throughout all the rounds, and I knew I would eventually get the knockout because I hurt him early on by knocking him down,” said Delgado. “I never got frustrated because I knew I had to keep my cool and land my punches so I didn’t get sloppy—that’s how I was able to successfully capture the knockout.”

To open the televised portion of the night Super Welterweight, Alexis Rocha, 3-0, 2 KO’s from Santa Ana took on Israel Villela, 4-2, 1 KO from Cancun, Mexico. Rocha who is the younger brother of the WBC Silver Featherweight Champion Ronny Rios, looked good in his fight against the tough Mexican Villela. From the start, Rocha took control of the fight landing brutal shots and hard combinations to the face and body of Villela. Rocha landed a strong overhand right flooring Villela in the first with him eventually making it to his feet and beating the count.

Rocha pressured his opponent and continued his onslaught of devastating punches before the fight was called to a halt at the 1:18 mark of the 1st. “I always prepare for every fight with the same intensity and this fight was not the exception,” said Rocha. I thought he was going to rush me in the first round so I made sure to stay focused and aggressive. Once I had him down I knew I had to apply smart pressure to win this fight. I am glad I was able to finish it early and secure another victory.” Rocha moves to 4-0, 3 KO’s
