Errol Spence, JR Blows Away Leonard Bundu – Boxing News

Sunday afternoon at the Ford Amphitheater on the world famous, Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn, New York, Errol “The Truth” Spence, JR. 20-0, 17 KO’s took on tough Italian veteran, Leonard Bundu, 33-1-2, 12 KO’s. The 12-round IBF title eliminator bout that guaranteed the winner a chance fight for a world championship, as they would become the mandatory challenger for the 147-pound title currently held by England’s Kell Brook. Spence, JR. the southpaw used his two and half inch reach advantage early. Errol utilized his jab and stayed on the outside peppering Bundu and working patiently throughout the first few rounds as the very aggressive Bundu never could quite get inside on the younger Spence, JR.

Round 4 seen Errol pick up the pace catching Bundu with big combinations and midway through the round Spence, JR. landed a hard left uppercut that wobbled Bundu knocking his mouthpiece out. In the 6th Spence, Jr. caught Bundu with a devastating left uppercut flooring him. Bundu beat the count only to have Spence, JR. land a barrage of punches and completely knock Bundu out with a right cross at the 2:06 mark. “I was going for the Knockout fighting on NBC prime time and I wanted to put on a great performance in front of these beautiful fans” Errol said after the fight.

“Come on” was the message to Kell Brook. “I want a shot at Kell Brook as soon as he’s done with GGG. If he’s not going to fight me he can vacate and I’ll fight someone else, I want the IBF title shot this year.” Punch stats show that Errol Spence, JR. landed 137 of 388 (35%) and Leonard Bundu landed 51 of 201 (25%). Errol Spence, JR. remains undefeated and moves to 21-0, 18 KO’s and is now the IBF mandatory challenger.
