Some fans who bet on boxing may be wondering whether IBF welterweight Kell Brook stands a chance against WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. And the answer to that question is, according to Paulie Malignaggi, why yes, yes he does. Which begs an even better question. Who is Paulie Malignaggi? As it turns out, Paulie Malignaggi is a former IBF junior welterweight and WBA welterweight champion. Also, his nickname is Magic Man. Okay, so where’s El Diablo? British Brook and Kazakhstani Golovkin are schedule to fight on September 10th at the O2 Arena in London, England for the latter’s titles – minus the WBA.

Malignaggi told Boxing News 24 that Triple G’s tendency to stand directly in front of opponents without moving his head – which he may or may not do in order to hypnotize them – could give Brook a chance to pull the upset. Did we mention GGG is the favorite of people betting on boxing? As a matter of fact, Golovkin is indeed the favorite – as he usually is – for this bout, which will coincidentally be Triple G’s 17th world title defense. The odds, per SBG Global sportsbook, are the following:

Kell Brook +550
Gennady Golovkin -800

The only problem is that, even if Brook gets a shot in, Golovkin’s chin is considered to be one of the best in modern boxing. Honest. It’s like Bruce Campbell and Robert Z’Dar somehow had a baby who grew up to never be knocked down or out. Conversely, Paulie ‘Walnuts’ doesn’t know whether Brook can take GGG’s devastating shots – the Kazakhstani has won 32 of his 35 bouts via KO. Golovkin likes to pressure his opponents by cutting the ring in half and setting them up for power punches. Brook is not known for moving around the ring a lot, and that doesn’t really make a whole lot of difference, because try as they might, no one gets away from Golovkin (and nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition). In England you can always find punch. In Kazakhstan, Golovkin punch you.

Both fighters will go into this match undefeated in nearly as many bouts – though Brook doesn’t have as many KO wins as Triple G. Obviously, something has to give. Fans betting on boxing can’t fault Brook for not doing his homework for his first middleweight fight. The 30 year old has undergone a complete sports science program at Sheffield Hallam University, including high intensity conditioning, strength training, and mobility and movement sessions. And speaking of science, current WBA (Regular)middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs says Brook is just too small to beat GGG. “It’s just science, man. Physics, bro. The difference in size. The difference in power,” Jacobs told BoxingScene.com. A propos of nothing, Jacobs is nicknamed The Golden Child. Do you think he’s that same kid from that Eddie Murphy movie, all grown up?

As for Golovkin, his strategy should be very simple; just pretend that Kell Brook is actually Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Hey, it worked for the Water Boy.
