Golden Boy Kicks Off Mexican Independence Month with a Stacked LA Fight Club Card

This Friday Golden Boy Promotions LA Fight Club card will kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month with an exciting Mexico Vs Puerto Rico main event between Antonio “La Joya” Gutierrez, 20-2-1, 9 KO’s of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico as he takes on Manati, Puerto Rico’s, Jorge “The Destroyer” Melendez, 28-6-1, 26 KO’s in a 10-round middleweight main event live from The Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Gutierrez who is one of Golden Boy’s prospects is coming off a tough loss in June to Gabriel Rosado, a fight that had Gutierrez flooring Rosado in the 4th round of an all-out war on the undercard of the fight of the year candidate between Francisco Vargas and Orlando Salido. Gutierrez hopes Friday night he can bring the same electricity to the Belasco only with a different outcome. Gutierrez recently stated, “I am excited to be back, and for the opportunity Golden Boy Promotions has given me to fight in Los Angeles after the fight with Gabriel Rosado.” I hope I can show my potential. We learned a lot with fight with Rosado and now I hope to move forward.

In the co main event Southern California fan favorite lightweight prospect Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez, 14-0, 12 KO’s from Buena Park take on Johnathon Corrales, 8-3-2, 2 KO’s from Ciudad Morelos, Baja California, Mexico. Gonzalez who is the younger brother of Alejandro “Cobrita” Gonzalez, the WBC featherweight champion in the 1990’s began making a name for himself in 2015 after signing with Golden Boy Promotions. Chimpas began his professional career fighting his first 7 fights in Mexico after graduating from Buena Park High School. Now Gonzalez look to impress his fans and remain undefeated this Friday with with a victory over Corrales. “It’s motivational to fight in Los Angeles at the Belasco Theater and see my fans showing support with my family there.” stated Gonzalez at the media workout. Corrales on the other hand is riding a six fight win streak and will be the first southpaw opponent Gonzalez has faced in his professional career. Fans in attendance should expect fireworks between Gonzalez and Corrales.

To open up the televised portion of the night is Undefeated super featherweight prospect, Oscar Duarte, 7-0-1, 4 KO’s of Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico as he battles Rafael Reyes, 7-8, 6 KO’s of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The 20 year old Duarte who recently signed a promotional agreement with Golden Boy Promotions and is managed by famous Mexican actor Gabriel Soto will be back in action at the Belasco only two weeks after coming off a big 1st round knockout victory over Omar Garcia. As an amateur Duarte won five state championships, five regional championships, and four national titles. Duarte is a rising star who made his debut as a Golden Boy Promotions fighter on Feb. 19 at the LA Fight Club and is quickly making his mark on the featherweight division while impressing Southern California fight fans.

Also on the card is Golden Boy prospect Lamont Roach, JR, 11-0, 3 KO’s, from Washington DC as he battles Marcos Rorzoco, 28-19, 14 KO’s, from Mexico City, Mexico, in an 8 round super featherweight fight. Rorozco is coming off a KO loss to another well known prospect Gervontra Davis, while Roach looked great in his last fight against Jose Esquival on the Canelo Vs Khan undercard where he came away with a unanimous decision victory.

Edgar Valerio, 7-0, 4 KO’s Vs Emmanuel Castro, 2-2, 2 KO’s, (4 Rounds) Featherweights.
Tenochtitlan “T-Dog” Nava, 2-0 Vs Juan Bryand, 1-4-1, (4 Rounds) Featherweights.
