Naoya “The Monster” Inoue Wins AGAIN!

Naoya-Inoue-2912By Jeffrey “Italian Medallion” Cellini

Japan’s Naoya “The Monster” Inoue, 11-0, 9 KO’s successfully defended his WBO Super Flyweight title against Thailand’s, Karoon “Petchbarngborn Kokietgym” Jarupianlerd 38-9-1, 18 KO’s by tenth round technical knockout on Sunday at the Sky Arena in Kanagawa, Japan. Inoue was making his third title defense of the belt that he won from Omar Andres Narvaez (KO 2) back in December of 2014.

Karoon, the top-ranked challenger, did have success at times throughout the fight with his flurry of punches; however, the stronger champion Inoue was able to win most of the exchanges and inflict damage to the Thai’s face (left cheek). In the tenth round, Jarupianlerd tried to step up his attack but Inoue was able to batter the challenger’s face repeatedly and send him to the canvas, prompting the referee to halt the fight.

“Determination got me the knockout in the end but the process leading up to it was no good whatsoever. I can’t be talking about big fights. I just have to keep practicing”, said Inoue after his victory.

Hideyuki Ohashi, the chairman of Inoue’s Ohashi Gym, has indicated that their goal is to get a possible unification bout with Roman Gonzalez, who is facing WBC Super Flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras this coming Saturday night at the Forum in Los Angeles.

Roman “Chocolitito” Gonzalez, 45-0, 38 KO’s is aiming to get his fourth world title when he squares off against the undefeated champion Cuadras. Gonzalez, universally recognized as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world today, is the current WBC, Lineal and The Ring magazine Flyweight champion. “Chocolitito” is the former WBA World Minimumweight and WBA World Light Flyweight Champion as well.

The 23-year old Naoya “The Monster” Inoue won the WBC World Light Flyweight title against Adrian Hernandez back in April of 2014 in only his sixth professional fight. Unfortunately, a hand injury kept him from being active for most of 2015. Inoue is one of boxing’s biggest secrets, and may crack the list as one of the sport’s best fighters in the world soon. The super flyweight class may also become one of boxing’s most exciting divisions.
