Carlos Carlson Captures NABF Title – Boxing News

Friday night inside of the Double Tree Hotel Thompson Boxing Promotions brought fight fans an evening of exciting boxing headlined by a NABF Bantamweight Championship fight between the #11 WBC ranked Bantamweight and former WBC Latino Champion, Carlos Carlson, 22-1, 13 KO’s of Tijuana, Mexico and Alex Rangel, 17-6-2, 11 KO’s of Obergon, Sonora, Mexico. The 1st round brought heavy back and forth action by both fighters as the loud crowd stood and cheered as the shorter Rangel made his way inside on Carlson landing precise shots. Carlson stood toe to toe with Rangel, then in the middle of the 1st Carlson was caught with a huge overhand right buckling his knees forcing his gloves to touch the canvas to help him regain his balance.

The knockdown lit a fire in Carlson as in round two he used quick combinations and accurate punches to out box Rangel. Near the end of the second Carlson hit Rangel with a right cross opening up a gash over his left eye and hurting Rangel. Then in round 3 Carlson continued his brutal assault on Rangel ending the fight with a devastating uppercut that turned out the lights on Rangel 1:00 minute into the round. With the victory fight fans should look for Carlson to move up in the rankings and possibly fighting for a major world championship in 2017.

In the Co-main event that was to showcase San Diego favorite undefeated junior welterweight Giovanni Santillan, 19-0, 10 KO’s never happened as an injury to his opponent Brian Jones and last minute visa problems with Jones replacement forced the fight to be canceled. Santillan has been rescheduled to fight on October 21st .

Other bouts include featherweight prospect Erick Ituarte, 15-1, 2 KO’s of Santa Ana, California as he faced Alberto Mora, 5-5, 1 KO, of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Ituarte made it look easy in the ring as he won every round against Mora. Ituarte put his foot on the gas pedal and never let off. After 6 complete rounds all three judges scored it the same 60-53.

In an 8 round Lightweight bout Manuel Mendez, 11-1, 7 KO’s of Indio, California took on Erick Martinez, 12-5-1, 6 KO’s of Tijuana, Mexico. Mendez who is trained by Joel Diaz walked away with a huge victory as he punished Martinez for 4 rounds before referee Raul Caiz, JR. stepped in and called a halt to bout at the 1:41 mark of the 4th . Mendez moves to 12-1, 8 KO’s.

Also on the undercard was featherweight Ruben Villa, 1-0, 1 KO of Salinas, California, who turned professional in July after a stellar career in the U.S. Amateurs. Villa battled Jose Mora , 0-0, 1 NC of Tijuana, Mexico in a 4 rounds bout. Villa hurt Mora early in the 1st with a clobbering right hand that absolutely floored Mora. Mora beat the count only to have Villa land a barrage of punches on his face forcing the referee Tom Taylor to jump in and waive off the fight. With that knockout Villa moves to 2-0, 2 KO’s

To open up the show bantamweights Danny Andujo, 1-0, 1 KO took on Cesar Guzman who made his pro debut. Both fighters who are from Temecula, California gave fans plenty of action in their 4 round bout. Andujo hurt Guzman in the 3rdround of a back and forth battle sending him to the canvas, but Guzman battle back and landed heavy punches of his own, but after four rounds all the judges decided Andujo did enough to pull out the unanimous decision victory. Andujo moves to 2-0 while Guzman will have to try again to get his first professional win as he moves to 0-1.
