Maricela Cornejo Makes Los Angeles Debut – Boxing News

Friday Night in downtown Los Angeles boxing fans will get a first look at the highly popular, former WBC International Middleweight Female Champion, Maricela “La Diva” Cornejo, 4-2, 2 KO’s as she makes her Southern California debut against former female champion Bay Area native Eliza Olson, 10-5-3, 2 KO’s inside of the Belasco Theater as the co-main event for Golden Boys Promotions LA Fight Club. Cornejo last fought in April in Auckland, New Zealand when she took on Kali Reis for the then vacant WBC title, it was the first time that country had ever hosted a major world title fight. Cornejo lost by a controversial split decision. Since that loss Cornejo has signed a contract with Cancun Boxing and a major promotional deal with Everlast.

Cornejo who is from Grandview, Washington and now makes Los Angeles her home will also be staring in the third season of Fuse TV Knockout Series later this year. Cornejo is ranked in the top 5 at middleweight is a come forward aggressive fighter who has trained with some of the top trainers in boxing including Floyd Mayweather, SR. Now Cornejo looks to impress her fans and keep the momentum of female boxing going with a war Vs Olson Friday night. Eliza Jane Olson fights out of Gladiator’s Training Academy in Redwood City, California. Olson was born on February 8, 1976 into a family with a long background in boxing.

Her grandfather was Carl “Bobo” Olson, middleweight world champion and boxing Hall of Famer who fought all the greats in his weight class and retired with an impressive record of 99-16-2, 49 KO’s. Her last title challenging fight was against Jessica Rakoczy for the International Boxing Association female lightweight title and WBC World female lightweight title, where she won via knock out. Fight fans in attendance or watching on Estrella TV should look forward an exciting Co-main event as the two ladies look to be champion again in the near future.

In the main event Super lightweight contender Art Hovanissyan, 17-2-3, 9 KO’s takes on former two time world title challenger Diego “Mr. Superb” Magdaleno, 28-2-0, 12 KO’s. From Gyumri, Armenia, Art Hovhannisyan was one of the top prospects in the super featherweight division, and was undefeated until his challenge for the WBO and NABO super featherweight title match against Alejandro Perez in February 2013. Since then Hovanissyan has been on the climb to get a title.

His latest attempt was in a tough fight where he lost via split decision against Jonathon Maicelo for the WBC International Silver lightweight title. Since then Hovanissyan has fought against Fidel Maldonado in an all-out brawl that resulted in a draw. Now he looks to take his next step towards a title when he takes on Magdaleno. Magdaleno is known for his exciting boxing style. A professional fighter since 2007, Magdaleno is ready to restart his career after suffering his second career loss to WBO Lightweight World Champion Terry Flanagan this past October. Previously, the 29 year old was the owner of the WBO International Lightweight Title, a belt he won in 2015 by defeating Jose A. Gonzalez via seventh round technical knockout. Now ready to step back in the limelight, Magdaleno will be looking for a stellar victory against the experienced Art Hovhannisyan.
