Today would have been, if he were still alive, the 110th Birthday of Primo Carnera, who was World Heavyweight Champion from Thursday, June 29, 1933 until Thursday, June 14, 1934. Carnera died at the age of 60. Rest in peace, Champ!

It’s the 85-year anniversary of when Young Perez became Tunisia´s first boxer to become World Champion. He KO´d Frankie Genaro in the second round and won the title of National Boxing Association World Flyweight Champion. The NBA was the World Boxing Association´s predecessor, the WBA.

Today is also the 65-year anniversary of the duel between Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis. It was youth and strength against age and experience. Marciano knocked his idol, Louis, out in round eight. Marciano cried after the fight. Louis was World Heavyweight Champion from Tuesday, June 22, 1937 until Tuesday, March 1, 1949, when he first retired. Marciano was World Heavyweight Champion from Tuesday, September 23, 1952 until Friday, April 27, 1956, when he permanently retired.
