Adam Lopez Wins by Knockout at the 2300 Arena

In the main event at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA on Friday night, Adam Lopez, 16-0-1, 8 KO’s stopped Carlos Valcarcel, 14-9-4 5 KO’s in the eighth and final round of their super bantamweight fight. The 25-year old Lopez appeared to be the stronger fighter throughout the contest, but was not as dominating as expected. Lopez, from San Antonio, TX, was in control throughout the fight though, utilizing his left jab, and solid body attack. The end came in the eighth when Lopez, currently ranked #4 by the WBA, landed a big left hook to the body that sent his 34-year old opponent to the canvas. Valcarcel stayed on his knees as the referee counted him out at the 1:47 mark of the round.

In the co-main event, undefeated welterweight prospect Ed “Bad Boy” Brown, 20-0, 16 KO’s defeated Albert Mensah, 29-6-1, 13 KO’s by eight-round unanimous decision. Brown, from Chicago, IL, plastered his opponent with a solid left jab and overhand rights. Neither fighter ever appeared to be in trouble, despite both landing big shots on the inside. Two of the judges gave the fight to Brown by the score of 80-72, while the third judge scored the contest 79-73.

Undefeated welterweight prospect Jaron ”Boots” Ennis, 7-0, 6 KO’s stopped Chrisshawn Alexander, 4-4, 4 KO’s at the end of the 4th round by technical knockout. Ennis, from Germantown, PA, dominated from the opening bell, and continuously battered Alexander along the ropes. Ennis was able to send Alexander to the canvas in the opening seconds of the fourth round with a solid combination, punctuated by a straight left hand. The referee halted the contest at the 3:00 mark of the fourth round (scheduled for six) when he decided that Alexander had taken enough punishment.

Undefeated junior welterweight prospect Kenneth “Boss Man” Sims JR, 10-0, 3 KO’s easily defeated Jonathan “Dynamite” Dinong, 5-2, 4 KO’s by six-round unanimous decision. Sims, from Chicago, IL, dominated the bout with crisp combinations and great movement. Dinong, from Montery Park, CA, appeared frustrated throughout the bout by Sim’s speed and quickness, and never seemed to land more than one punch in a row on his southpaw opponent. All three judges scored the bout 60-54 for Sims.

The upset of the night came when Taneal “Spider” Goyco, 9-9-1, 4 KO’s stopped Jerry “The King’s Son” Odom, 14-3-1, 13 KO’s after five rounds of their scheduled 8-round super middleweight contest. Goyco, from Philadelphia, who appeared to be hurt in the closing seconds of the first round, came on strong midway through the second, and started to hurt Odom with big left hooks and overhand rights. Odom appeared to be in trouble several times in the 4th and 5th rounds before retiring in his corner after the fifth round.
Undefeated junior featherweight prospect Emmanuel “Major Pain” Folly, 8-0, 6 KO’s stopped Tibor Nadori, 9-7-1, 4 KO’s at the 2:02 mark of the first round. Folly, from Philadelphia, knocked Nadori down with a right to the head (ear) seconds into the fight, and finished the English counterpart with a right to the body.

Undefeated lightweight prospect and Philadelphia native Joshua Jones, 3-0-1, 2 KO’s easily defeated Corey Edwards, 2-2,1 KO by four-round unanimous decision. Two judges scored the bout 40-36, while the third judge had the contest 39-37.

Super middleweight prospect Derrick “Take It To The Bank” Webster, 21-1, 11 KO’s defeated Zoltan Sera, 26-11, 17 KO’s by 5th round technical knockout. Webster, from Philadelphia, scored a knockdown in the fourth, and had the Hungarian fighter in trouble throughout the fifth, when the referee halted the contest at the 1:28 mark of the round.

Junior middleweight prospect Hurshiddek Normatov, 3-0, 1 KO, from Ubekistan, won a six-round unanimous decision over Lenwood Dozier, 10-14-2, 5 KO’s. All three judges scored the bout 60-54.

Bantamweight prospect Leroy Davila, 4-0, 2 KO’s defeated Damon Simon, 0-5-1 by unanimous decision. Two judges scored the bout 40-35, while the third judge scored the contest 40-36.
