Last weekend on HBO Boxing, we were witness to one of the worst fights in recent memory. Vasyl Lomachenko Vs Nicholas Walters, for the WBO World super featherweight title. After witnessing one of the best fights in recent memory, and quite possibly of all time, just a week prior. A fight that had all the makings of a fight of the year contender, turned out to be a massive disappointment. After six one-sided rounds without much action from either fighter, yet easily won by Lomachenko. The 7th round saw Lomachenko finally step on the gas, and he began to completely outclass Walter’s.

Before the bell for the 8th round could ring, Walter’s and his corner, instructed the referee Tony Weeks, that they no longer wished to compete. The infamous “No Mas” was once again heard in the boxing world. While this performance should surely have Lomachenko’s stock rising, Walter’s has left indelible mark on his career that may haunt him to no end.

Before the main event on Saturday, HBO Boxing showed the replay of the fight of the year contender, Ward Vs Kovalev. The buzz surrounding the fight never let up throughout the entire week, and the replay once again gave a reminder of how important this fight was, and will be in the history of boxing. The year in boxing for 2016 has been hit or miss, yet we have still had great fights. Ward-Kovalev just may be the best of the year when it is all said and done.

Roman GRing Magazine P4P List…

Ring Magazine released their most up to date pound for pound rankings, which as expected, and should be the case, Roman Gonzalez still sits atop the rankings. Although certainly earned, it is still somewhat surprising that Andre Ward was moved to the number 2 spot just behind Gonzalez. The boxing world being split over the decision for Ward Vs Kovalev, it would have made just as much sense to have Kovalev keep his spot despite the loss. Although the billing for Ward Vs Kovalev tried to sell the fight as a battle for P4P supremacy, Gonzalez has done more than enough to remain at the top spot.
