Julio Cesar Chavez, JR. Vs. Billy Lyell Press Quotes

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, is looking forward to his homecoming this Saturday in Culiacan, Mexico and Billy Lyell is looking forward to playing the spoiler in the main event of “Top Rank Live” that will be televised by Fox Deportes from the Banorte Soccer Stadium.

“I have not fought at home since 2006 and I am really excited about this fight. I want to show everyone that I am ready to fight for a World Championship and to do that, I need to look great against Billy Lyell a tough guy who has fought a world title and was the first man to defeat John Duddy,” said Chavez Jr, today during the final press conference.
Chavez Jr, the WBC #1 middleweight world ranked contender will defended his WBC middleweight Silver championship against Lyell of Youngstown, Ohio.

“I that there is talk that I will be fighting for the world championship after this fight, but first I have to defeat Lyell and look great doing it, and that is exactly what I am going to do this Saturday Night,” said Chavez Jr.

Lyell is confident that he can take home the win on Saturday night.

“I am very happy to be here in Culiacan, the people are very nice and have treated me great. I know that we are fighting in his hometown and everyone will be rooting for him, but inside the ring it will only be the two of us and I come to win and will do everything I can to get the victory,”said Lyell.

The card also includes a world title defense by Jackie “The Aztec Princess” Nava, the current WBC Interim Super bantamweight female champion who will take on Freede Gonzalez of Los Angeles, California.

“I am always happy to fight in big cards and this is one a big one. I know Freede very well and I expect a real tough battle on Saturday night. I prepare very well in Tijuana and look forward to giving the fans a great fight,” said Nava.

There is also another middleweight fight that has grab the attention of the fans here is Culiacan, as local hero Saul Roman takes another Freddie Roach train fighter”Michael Medina in a 10 round bout.

“There is always more pressure fighting at home and I want to do well in front of my hometown fans. Medina is a tough guy and I expect a real war. I am ready for him and to give the fans the kind of fight they expect from me,” said Roman

Medina, who has been training with Roach in Los Angeles is ready for the challenge.

“Coming to your opponent backyard to fight is never easy, but I have prepared very well for this fight and look forward to facing Saul Roma a world class fighter who I need to beat at this point of my career and to seek the fights that will bring me a championship opportunity,”said Medina.

Freddie Roach and Alex Rizza, are happy with the work Chavez Jr. has done for the fight and are looking for a good performance from their fighter.

“Julio is coming along great. He has put in the work and has show me that he wants to get better and I believe all the hard work will payoff on Saturday. I want him to do great and give the fans an exciting fight and the move on to better and bigger things,”said Roach.

The weigh-in will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. local time at the host hotel Lucerna in the pool area.
