Groundhog Day 2011: Punxsutawney Phil’s Prediction

By Geno McGahee

For 125 years, a groundhog has made a prediction as to whether our winters will be longer or shorter, and out of desperation over the current snowstorms, we turn back to Punxsutawney Phil for his vision of what the future will bring.

The good news is that we are supposedly going to have an early spring, but the bad news is that statistically, Phil is only correct 39% of the time. So don’t break out your shorts just yet.

The tradition has inspired the movie GROUNDHOG DAY with Bill Murray and has been a nice attraction for the people that are all seeking help away from the cold of winter, the oil bills, and the snow.

This is the second animal to make headlines in recent weeks, along with the lovable gorilla Ambam. Ambam and Punxsutawney Phil are easily the animals of the week. A 485 pound Gorilla that walks upright and a Groundhog with psychic ability. How can you beat that?
