IBF light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev, 12-0, 12 KO’s, will be back in action on October 6, 2018, when he defends his title against undefeated Brit, Callum “The One” Johnson, 17-0, 12 KO’s. Johnson will be coming off of a first round technical knockout victory over Frank Buglioni in March. For Beterbiev, this will be his first fight since November, 2017, and he will have gone nearly a full year between fights. This is a bit telling considering he only fought once in 2017.

Beterbiev burst onto the scene knocking out boxer after boxer and gained a ton of buzz. He knocked out Enrico Koelling in the 12th round of his last fight to pick up the IBF title. The fight with Koelling was the co-feature of a Top Rank card on ESPN . The fight didn’t provide much for entertainment through the first 11 rounds due to Koelling’s defense first style, but Beterbiev showed that he could go 12 rounds and still pack enough juice to get his opponent out.

Johnson will be looking to boost his status and show that he’s one of the light heavyweights to look out for. A win over Beterbiev would instantly put him in the mix with the top of the division. For Beterbiev, inactivity could be a major issue and time is ticking as there are a ton of elite fighters at light heavyweight seemingly itching to fight. Whatever the outcome, let’s hope the fight delivers. That’s why they fight the fights. May the best man win. Stay tuned into RSR for additional information as the fight approaches. Cheers!
