Saturday night’s WBC super lightweight title fight between Jose Carlos Ramirez, 22-0, 16 KO’s, and Danny O’Connor, 30-3, 11 KO’s, is officially off. O’Connor had to be rushed to the hospital due to suffering from dehydration earlier today. This is a heartbreaker for both camps as this comes with less than 24 hours before the fight was to officially take place. O’Connor revealed information on the incident via Twitter.

“Heartbreaking to be rushed to the hospital and deemed medically unfit to fight the day before fighting for my first world title. I let the idea of being a world champion cloud my judgment of my personal health. Nothing is more important than my health. As I rest and recover with my family I ask for privacy. Thanks for all the well wishes and your continued support.”

As far as Ramirez, it’s definitely disappointing as he has a rather dedicated fan base and has been on a hot streak over the last several months. Anything can happen at any given moment in the sport of boxing so our thoughts are most certainly with O’Connor as he recovers. In the meantime we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for Ramirez. He picked up his title in March, 2018, with a hard fought and deserved victory over Amir Imam. Stay tuned in to Ringside Report as more information is gathered.
