Danny Jacobs Vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko Coming Soon to the Boxing World!

By Joshua “City” Brewer

Hello boxing world. I’m live from the five hundred and four (shoutout Weezy). Anyway, if you haven’t heard, per twitter (yes, twitter), negotiations between Lou Dibella and Eddie Hearn have led us to confirmation of one of the more intriguing fights in boxing not only for the year, but for many years. Boxing fans will get to witness Danny “The Miracle Man” Jacobs, 34-2, 29 KO’s, face off against Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko, 12-0, 10 KO’s, for the vacant IBF world middleweight title. Thus far, a date and venue has not been confirmed (likely Barclays in Brooklyn) but New York, New York, will be the location. All of that is secondary as the fight being made is the win thus far. Everything else is just extra.

If I’ve said it once or twice I’ll say it again, this has been an excellent year for boxing and this makes it that much greater. What we have here is a veteran fighter who’s been in with the absolute best at middleweight (GGG) taking on a young-gun, by fight count as Derevyanchenko is actually a year older, looking to take the throne by force. I’m just going to sit here and bask in the ambiance for a moment….okay!

Derevyanchenko has only 12 fights, but he has run through the best competition that has been willing to face him. His best win is certainly Tureano Johnson, but he has yet to meet an equal as a pro. As the saying goes, ask and you shall receive. Since his early career loss to Dmitry Pirog in 2010, Jacobs has gone 14-1 with the other loss coming at the hands of consensus middleweight kingpin, Gennady Golovkin in a competitive fight. He’s essentially made no bones about his intentions at this point in his career and the top of the division is in his sights.

This is why we love the sport. Essentially, most fighters have the same goal and to get there they will at some point have to face the best of their division. Often this brings about fireworks, but there are occasional duds. I’m Jacobs Vs Derevyanchenko, I don’t see anything but fireworks. Both have experience when you just look at the overall pedigree, and both are very determined. Also, both can crack, which is what probably excites fans (or just me) the most. Though there is a possibility (eye roll), I don’t see any scenario where this fight doesn’t produce sustainable action.

Win, lose, or draw, the rest of the division will be watching and will surely be on notice. There are an abundance of big names at middleweight with Canelo Alvarez (clenbuterol aside) being the biggest, and any scenario with the winner of this fight facing any of the big names at 160 is sure to be just as enticing as the fight at hand. As I always say, don’t talk about it, be about it. Jacobs and Derevyanchenko are about it. The Miracle Man and The Technician are about that life. Are you? As always, I’ll share more as I gain more info. If you do so beforehand, feel free to chime in. Stay thirsty for action my friends.

Peace!
