Anyone who is reading the title of this article is probably wondering why an African American woman like myself is writing such a thing? It may incite anger from others, but as you read my article you will have a much better understanding of what I mean.

With the Trump Administration’s relaxed approach to racism, people have a feeling that it’s their constitutional right to attack people of color. It is so blatant that it is scary. As a mother of two biracial children, I live in fear that things are going to escalate to the point of violence. I even fear that the police won’t defend people of color when they are discriminated against. I had a personal experience with this back in 2011.

I grew up in a town in which racial diversity was filled with pride. My neighborhood was one of the few African American communities in Bucks County. A farmer from New Jersey owned this large plot of land right outside of Northeast Philadelphia who wanted to give African American’s an opportunity to own their own home since banks were not giving African Americans this opportunity. This neighborhood is called Linconia and my grandparents settled there in the late 1940’s during the Great Migration to the north. This man used his white privilege to ensure that anyone who wanted to own a home was able to do so. This neighborhood still stands to this day and actually people of all walks of life live there. My mother, aunt, and uncle still live there to this day.

Another example of how white privilege can be used to make the world a better place is the example of Robert F. Kennedy. After the death of his brother, President Kennedy Robert Kennedy had a rebirth. Growing up in privilege of being raised by wealthy rich parents with the best education, Kennedy was oblivious of the poverty and lack of education in both the urban and rural areas for both white and African Americans. When he had his rebirth he became aware of this fact and used his white privilege to make all Americans aware of the common suffering of the disadvantaged. This spearheaded reforms that helped these people.

People who see racism rising need to use their white privilege to fight back. This white privilege can be used to clap back against the Trump Administration’s systematic racism against people of color. Use this white privilege to educate people that this current administration which is using smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that they are in bed with a foreign power. They are certainly using it to tell the American people that the media is the enemy and not to believe what you are seeing. Now is the time to use this white privilege to ensure that in November that the” Blue Wave” is successful and that this administration’s ambition to destroy everything great about this country comes to an end finally!
