Former 2012 Olympian Joseph “Jo-Jo” Diaz 26-1, 14 KO’s, will continue to stay busy and will be having his third fight this year. Diaz has been an active and exciting fighter. He has been fighting as a professional for almost six years and has looked great. Diaz fights under Golden Boy Promotions and has been in a good run. Diaz did run into a stumbling block three months ago. Diaz got a chance for a world title shot against one of the best fighters in the Featherweight division. That was against WBC World Champion Gary Russell, JR. Diaz worked hard to get this opportunity. The former U.S. Olympian fought a great fight and hung in tough, but he came up short at the end.

The undefeated 25 year old fighter lost his first fight by a 12 round unanimous decision. He also fought Russell, JR. in his hometown of Maryland. However, Diaz can be proud of himself by going to distance and showing he can compete with the best fighters in the Featherweight division. Diaz can take this as a learning lesson like most great fighters do and come back. Come this Saturday, less than three months after the Russell fight, Diaz is wasting no time and is back in the ring. He is definitely showing no signs of discouragement and wants to bounce back from defeat.

Diaz is not taking a step back and will be fighting another tough challenger. Diaz could have fought a lesser opponent but decided to challenge himself once again. He will take on Jesus Rojas from Puerto Rico for the WBA World Featherweight title. Rojas is another top fighter in the Featherweight division and holds a record of 26-1-2, 19 KO’s. Rojas had a good 2017 year, with knockout victories over Abraham Lopez and Claudio Marrero. Rojas has been a professional since 2006 and you know he will make the most out of this title opportunity as well. Golden Boy Promotions will be broadcasting the fight live on Facebook Watch from The Avalon in Hollywood, California.

Diaz is hoping this second chance at a world title will be in his favor. There is no major fights happening this weekend on any of the premium networks so tune in this weekend to see a great fight.
