David Lemieux Knocked Out: Boxing Shocker

By Geno McGahee

It was the biggest test for the Canadian middleweight with the big punch. With HBO and Showtime reportedly having an eye on him, Lemieux, 25-1, 24 KO’s, went to war with ring veteran Marco Antonio Rubio, 50-5-1, 43 KO’s, but a right hand would land in round seven and the fight would be stopped by the Lemieux corner, leading to his first defeat.

The defense of Lemieux has always been questionable, but up to this point, it never came into play. Now, with the experienced and hard-hitting Rubio, it mattered and the 22 year old fighter must find a way to rebound. It is really bad timing for Lemieux considering the money on the table that was reportedly there had he won this fight.

Although he lost this fight, Lemieux is still a fighter to watch. With his power and youth, he has plenty of time to regroup and rebound. For Rubio, he is now the mandatory challenger for the WBC title.
