It\u2019s the first time in modern history that a VP has testified about the president he served with.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time Pence has had to speak under oath about his conversations with Trump leading up to Jan. 6th. Per CNN\u2019s reporting, \u201cTrump repeatedly pressured him unsuccessfully to block the 2020 election&#8217;s result, including the morning of January 6 on a private phone call, and a federal judge previously ruled Pence could be compelled to recount conversations the two men had where Trump may have been acting corruptly.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Pence\u2019s advisor Marc Short didn\u2019t confirm his appearance on Thursday; he did address some of the legal discussions over Pence\u2019s testimony. In an interview with Newsnation, Short said, &#8220;I think that the vice president, you know, had his own case based on the Speech and Debate Clause. He was pleased that for the first time a judge acknowledged that it applied to the vice president of the United States\u2026But he was willing to comply with the law, and courts have ordered him to testify.&#8221; Trump himself said that he wasn\u2019t worried of Pence\u2019s testimony if he\u2019s \u201ctruthful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His testimony to federal investigators comes as he is preparing to enter the race against Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nominee. For the most part, when speaking of the events of Jan. 6th the former VP has focused on \u201cfollowing the Constitution\u201d and refusing to do Trump\u2019s bidding. While Trump\u2019s followers built a noose and threatened to kill Pence, he still avoided Trump bashing and testifying under oath until the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday that he must. Hours later he was in front of Smith and the grand jury.<\/p>\n<p>Considering Pence spoke for five hours I think he had some interesting pieces of the puzzle to fill in for Smith. There\u2019s no possible way if Pence was truthful that it helps Trump.
