He was 86.<\/p>\n<p>After serving jailtime in the 1960s, he started a career as a singer and his debut album &#8220;Penitentiary Blues\u201d was released in 1970.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He wrote songs for Tanya Tucker and Johnny Paycheck and was also known for his own songs \u201cYou Never Even Called Me by My Name\u201d, \u201cLonghaired Redneck,\u201d \u201cThe Ride,\u201d and \u201cMona Lisa Lost Her Smile\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife and children.<\/p>\n<p>Ringside Report sends their condolences to The Coe Family in their time of grief.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;
