{"id":2304,"date":"2010-05-06T07:08:08","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T14:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=2304"},"modified":"2010-05-06T07:08:08","modified_gmt":"2010-05-06T14:08:08","slug":"quotes-from-the-weight-is-over-final-press-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=2304","title":{"rendered":"Quotes From the &quot;Weight Is Over&quot; Final Press Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/online.titanbet.com\/promoRedirect?key=em9uZUlkPTE1NzMyNjAwOTUmbGFuZGluZ1BhZ2VJZD0wJnByb2ZpbGVJZD01MjUyMzc%3D\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1750\" title=\"468 banner\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/cid_X_MA3_1269187203@aol.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"60\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a rel=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=2304 \" href=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=2304 \"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-534\" style=\"margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;\" title=\"RSR Boxing Headlines header\" src=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/RSR-Boxing-Headlines-header1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a>Goossen Tutor Press Release<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trendy LA eatery Sisley Italian Kitchen in Sherman Oaks was the site for today\u2019s final press conference in advance of Saturday\u2019s highly anticipated the \u201cWEIGHT IS OVER\u201d battle between former 3-time World Champion Paul \u201cThe Punisher\u201d Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) and former Welterweight World Champion Kermit \u201cThe Killer\u201d Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The scheduled 12-round battle \u2013 presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with DiBella Entertainment &#8212; will be contested at 154 pounds, a division higher then Williams natural 147-pound weight, in what promises to be an action-packed main event for fans in attendance at the outdoor Home Depot Center in Carson, California and an HBO \u201cWorld Championship Boxing\u201d television audience.\u00a0 Corona will serve as the event\u2019s sponsor.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the main event, promoter Dan Goossen introduced reigning WBO NABO Lightweight Champion Martin \u201cEl Brochas\u201d Honorio (28-4-1, 14 KOs), who will drop back down to 130 pounds to take on 2004 Dominican Republic Olympian Argenis Mendez (15-1, 9 KOs) for the vacant USBA Junior Lightweight Title.<\/p>\n<p>Seated on the dais were Williams and his trainer George Peterson; Cintron and his promoter Lou DiBella, HBO executive Kery Davis and Goossen.\u00a0 Also called up to say a few words about their title fight were Mendez and Honorio.<\/p>\n<p>Following are quotes from today\u2019s media event:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PAUL WILLIAMS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been asked the same questions so many times about fighting in different weight classes, if I feel I am getting slighted, that sort of stuff, that my answers are almost like turning on a recorder and listening to it play, but only with my mouth moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, make no mistake; I don\u2019t mind getting the attention and all the questions.\u00a0 I am confident and comfortable fighting in different weight classes and I will continue to do so for as long as I can and it is feasible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever the weight is, my mindset is &#8212; and always has been &#8212; to fight to the end.\u00a0 I think that is my greatest advantage.\u00a0 I\u2019m satisfied with the way things are going,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, Cintron is my main focus.\u00a0 The guy right in front of me is always my main focus. I don\u2019t think about any other possible fights.\u00a0 If I\u2019m asked, I\u2019ll talk about it, but otherwise my sole concentration is my next fight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, you know, my thing is I\u2019ll fight anybody if the money is right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaturday is going to be a real fight between two hungry guys doing their best to get their hand raised at the end.\u00a0 It\u2019s not personal, but he\u2019ll be out throwing punches and trying to hurt me, and I\u2019ll be trying to hurt him.\u00a0 If he catches me with his best shot, I\u2019ll still be standing.\u00a0 When I catch him with my best shot, look out. It may be a different (scenario).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hated training camp, getting up at 4 a.m. and working as hard as I did.\u00a0 But that means it was a great camp and I am in tremendous condition.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to making the most of my opportunity on Saturday and making Cintron pay for all the hours and hours I put in during camp.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>KERMIT CINTRON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis fight has been in the works since 2006 when he was WBO champion and I was IBF champion. We were supposed to fight a unification fight back then.\u00a0 There\u2019ve been talks three or four times since, but the time wasn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, for me, the timing is perfect and I am very confident.\u00a0 You can call Williams a \u201cfeared\u201d fighter, or whatever, but he\u2019s just another fighter for me<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be an interesting fight because we\u2019ve both overcome some obstacles to get here.\u00a0 Style-wise, it could be the Fight of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had a perfect training camp with no complaints.\u00a0 I am 100 percent physically and mentally and feel that &#8212; at the age of 30 &#8212; I am in my prime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWilliams has two inches in height on me but I\u2019ve sparred with taller guys in the gym and don\u2019t expect it to be a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I do my thing and be myself, use my skills and stick to the game plan, I\u2019ll win it on Saturday.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARTIN HONORIO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve won a lot of belts and feel confident that I will get another one on Saturday.\u00a0 But this is a very important fight for another reason, too.\u00a0 I need to win to get a shot at the world title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know very much about Mendez other than what I\u2019ve seen on his record and that he was an Olympian.\u00a0 But I am definitely not going to overlook him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe key for me in every fight is training camp and I had a great one and worked very hard.\u00a0 I am in tremendous shape.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, it\u2019s always better to win impressively and make a statement, but the most important thing is winning the fight.\u00a0 I am looking forward to a very good fight.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARGENIS MENDEZ<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have prepared very well. I feel really good.\u00a0 This fight should be a war and I\u2019ll do whatever it takes to win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel fighting in the 2004 Olympics for the Dominican Republic has been a great advantage for me.\u00a0 Fighting internationally as an amateur has helped me as a pro in many ways.\u00a0 I feel comfortable in a boxing ring no matter where it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel I am still learning but definitely improving, too.\u00a0 I\u2019m definitely capable of winning this fight and that is what I am going to do.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>DAN GOOSSEN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the great things about a Paul Williams fight is they always have that ability to become a \u2018Fight of the Year\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere we had Alfredo Angulo who was being groomed to be one of the top 154-pounders and who beats Kermit Cintron.\u00a0 Obviously, we saw the fight with (Sergio) Martinez, so whenever we talk about the future, it\u2019s okay but it doesn\u2019t mean we\u2019re looking past the present, which is Saturday night.\u00a0 We know we\u2019ve got a tough fight, but this is all part and parcel of going out there and saying \u2018this is what we\u2019re doing.\u00a0 This is why we\u2019re doing it, and this is what\u2019s going to happen when it\u2019s done.\u00a0 But obviously, Kermit Cintron is going to do everything he can to change that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know what we\u2019re gonna get Saturday night and that\u2019s our money\u2019s worth when Paul Williams steps into that ring to go out there and show that he\u2019s the best fighter pound for pound in the world today.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Honorio-Mendez fight is a 12-round fight for the USBA Junior Lightweight Championship and like Lou (DiBella) said, the winner of this is certainly going to position himself for a World Championship fight.\u00a0 But, this is what the sport needs, especially on the undercard fights.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LOU DiBELLA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a pleasure to promote Kerm.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always thought he was a terrific talent.\u00a0 When I got an opportunity to see the people that sort of abandoned him after the fight with Margarito, I knew that he was still a young man and a young fighter with a tremendous future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things about Kermit that I love which is the same thing I love about the guy over here (Williams), who I\u2019ve been on the other side of the ring from a lot of times but I\u2019m a big fan of:\u00a0 Paul Williams is a warrior; Kermit\u2019s a warrior.\u00a0 They are two consummate athletes.\u00a0 These are both guys that could have success in almost any sport they would have selected.\u00a0 And they\u2019re both warriors.\u00a0 They get in there; they fight.\u00a0 Not only do they fight, they fight who you ask them to fight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re going to see a war on Saturday night, partially because neither one of these guys knows another way.\u00a0 They\u2019re gonna get in there;
