Trout was dropped in round seven from a right hand, but other than that, the bout was relatively even, with ebbs and flows. The power of Canelo was the difference in the end, although he fought cautiously.

There was open scoring and when Canelo was informed that he was well ahead after 8 rounds, he fought like it. He didn’t take any chances and just deflected punches, cruising safely to the victory.

Alvarez can now look forward to Floyd Mayweather, JR., if he gets beyond Robert Guerrero.

Omar Figueroa, 21-0-1, 17 KO’s, blitzed Abner Cotto, 16-1, 7 KO’s, and walked through him with relative ease.
