Nice Try Fella! &#8212; Boxing News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=31459\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-29950\" title=\"floyd canelo\" src=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/floyd-canelo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"535\" height=\"94\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/floyd-canelo.jpg 669w, https:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/floyd-canelo-300x52.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 535px) 100vw, 535px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eight-time, five-division World Champion <strong>Floyd \u201cMoney\u201d Mayweather<\/strong> and Super Welterweight World Champion and Mexican Superstar <strong>Canelo Alvarez<\/strong> kicked off fight week for <strong>\u201cTHE ONE: MAYWEATHER vs. CANELO\u201d<\/strong> as the two superstars arrived in grand fashion in front of approximately 2,000 screaming fans on Tuesday at the <strong>MGM Grand Hotel Lobby<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Canelo\u2019s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather\u2019s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship will be at stake this Saturday on <strong>SHOWTIME PPV<\/strong> in the most significant boxing showdown in recent memory.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mayweather and Canelo briefly met with the media following Tuesday\u2019s formal arrival, where the subject quickly turned to the controversy surrounding the 152-pound catchweight and statements from The Money Team that Team Canelo made a mistake in agreeing to fight at 152 pounds.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m the bigger guy, why would I give up weight?\u201d Canelo asked the media.\u00a0 \u201cYou want to know what happened?\u00a0 They wanted to fight at welterweight.\u00a0 I told them, \u2018No way, those days are over for me.\u2019\u00a0 Then they said let\u2019s do the fight at 150.\u00a0 I said I couldn\u2019t do that.\u00a0 Then 151.\u00a0 Then we finally agreed on 152.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would come down two pounds to make the important fight.\u00a0 They told us not to disclose anything and we were fine with that.\u00a0 The reason why we are talking about the weight today is because they called us idiots and they are lying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, had a firm response to Canelo\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe took advantage of a situation,\u201d Ellerbe said.\u00a0 \u201cThe kid suggested it himself a long time ago.\u00a0 He put himself out there like that and we\u2019re going to hold his feet to the fire.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayweather, who didn\u2019t acknowledge questions surrounding the catch-weight, insisted he\u2019ll still be boxing\u2019s No. 1 draw after Saturday\u2019s showdown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not the future,\u201d Mayweather said.\u00a0 \u201cBut he\u2019s still going to be a star after he loses on Saturday.\u00a0 When I\u2019m in a fight like this I\u2019m not losing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t think I could go to the Alamodome and sell it out?\u00a0 I give Canelo credit for showing up on Sept. 14 and that\u2019s it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI take my hat off to Richard Schaefer; he works very, very hard, him and Leonard [Ellerbe],\u201d said Mayweather when asked about the massive size of the Sept. 14 promotion.\u00a0 \u201cThis is not just a fight, this is what we call an event\u00a0 These people play a major key to my success.
