\"\"<\/a>In a move that reflects their enthusiasm for everything Pok\u00e9mon, Union J have announced today that they will change their name to Union XY to mark the launch of the Pok\u00e9mon X<\/em> and Pok\u00e9mon Y <\/em> video games for Nintendo 3DS\u2122, on October 12th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

For one day only, Union J will celebrate the release of Pok\u00e9mon X<\/em> and Pok\u00e9mon Y<\/em> with their name change to Union XY\u2014a suggestion made by band member George Shelley and supported by his band mates. The official press announcement was made today (October 4th<\/sup>) at the Charlotte Street Hotel in London, where the band revealed the news to a packed press conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always loved Pok\u00e9mon and it was a massive part of my childhood, I\u2019m hooked on it,\u201d explained George. \u201cWhen I was telling the rest of the band how excited I was about playing Pok\u00e9mon X<\/em> and Pok\u00e9mon Y, <\/em> the idea to change our name just came to me. It\u2019s so cool to be part of the game in some way; it feels like a natural fit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Josh, Jaymi, George, and JJ are all fans of Pok\u00e9mon and are familiar with each generation of Pok\u00e9mon games. During the filming of the X Factor, Josh and George brought Nintendo DS\u2122 systems to play Pok\u00e9mon Black<\/em>, JJ loves Pok\u00e9mon Emerald, <\/em> and Jaymi\u2019s favourite game is Pok\u00e9mon Crystal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The official name change will happen on October 12th<\/sup>, the same day as Pok\u00e9mon X<\/em> and Pok\u00e9mon Y <\/em> release exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.<\/p>\n
