Stewart

It has to have been one of the biggest weekends in British boxing for some considerable time. We saw Dereck Chisora 15-4, 9 KO’s lose in the fifth round, knocked down by David Haye 26-2, 24 KO’s. Afterwards a big hug said – we were only kidding! Amir Khan 26-3, 18 KO’s, following a lot of work on getting his belt back threw it away carelessly against Danny Garcia 24-0, 15 KO’s. Following that defeat Carl Froch 29-2, 21 KO’s kicked up a storm by being misquoted. What he said as that IF HE had been beaten for a third time He would retire not that Khan should! As boxing does it became news…

As for the other news this week – Khan is hopeful he can get a rematch; David Price 13-0,11 KO’s is eyeing a match against Chisora; Froch has announced he would love Kelly Pavlik 40-2, 34 KO’s at home in Nottingham in the Fall; Carl Frampton 14-0, 9 KO’s, announced that he will fight for the European Bantamweight tile against Kiko Martinez 26-3, 19 KO’s; George Groves 14-0, 11 KO’s says Kenny Anderson 17-1, 12 KO’s has been highly successful – at being more annoying than James DeGale 12-1, 9 KO’s and he will wants to punch him in the throat; and British boxing was hit by another drugs scandal.
Former World Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Maccaranelli 35-5, 27 KO’s has received a 6 moth ban for using a banned substance. Claiming naivety, Maccaranelli joins a list of British boxers who have been banned recently, leaving boxing reeling.

FLASHBACK

The weekend before we had British boxing on the up! And then on the slide! The Heavyweight contest between Derrick “Del Boy” Chisora and David “Hayemaker” Haye in London for the WBA and WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight titles saw Haye win in the 5th.Haye has noted that another Klitschko fight would be nice but he really doesn’t need it because his legacy has been restored. The Chisora legacy with 4 losses is perhaps less secure and thoughts in his camp must be HOW he can recover and get back into the World title talks that his recent form suggests he is ready to compete at.

The undercard included Liam Walsh 13-0, 10 KO’s beating Domenico Urbano 25-4-1, 10 KO’s for the WBO European title, stopping him in the 9th whilst Matthew Hall 24-6, 16 KO’s lost to Gary O’Sullivan 15-0, 9 KO’s for the WBO International Middleweight Championship in a unanimous points decision.

Meanwhile, with one legacy restored, reinstated WBA Light Middleweight Champion, Amir Khan toddled into the ring against Danny Garcia as a World Champion and left without any title. I thought Khan would win – not easily – but win nonetheless. His loss in the 4th where he ended up in the canvass came after two rounds that were all about Khan. He had dictated the pace and had won more admirers until he forgot how to keep going, a rush of blood came to his head and the vulnerability that Maidana nearly took advantage of returned and Khan was dumped. He is now talking of splitting from trainer Freddie Roach as he is now looking to get back into the rung and gain some titles again.
On the 15th July Jason Booth 36-10, 15 KO’s lost to Willie Casey 13-1, 8 KO’s for the WBO Intercontinental title in Sunderland, England on points.

FAST FORWARD

In Newport, Gary Buckland 25-2, 8 KO’s prepares for his British Super Featherweight title fight against Stephen Foster 30-3-1, 18 KO’s in October against Innocent Anyanwa 21-4-2, 13 KO’s.

FUTURE HISTORY
The Olympics… Pay attention… Next week we shall be looking at the real future of British boxing!

By Donald C.
