The new stop-motion animated comedy thriller, will be released in theaters everywhere on Friday,\u00a0August 17th<\/strong>. When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? “Norman!” From Focus Features and LAIKA, the companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature\u00a0Coraline<\/em>, comes the comedy thriller\u00a0ParaNorman<\/em><\/strong>. Following\u00a0Coraline<\/em>,\u00a0ParaNorman<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the second stop-motion animated feature to be made at LAIKA in 3D, unifying the two stunning art forms to tell an all-new frightfully funny, magically emotional, and hilariously spooky story.<\/p>\n

Mr. Brion has performed with, and produced records for, artists such as Fiona Apple (When the Pawn…<\/em>); Aimee Mann (Whatever<\/em>;\u00a0I’m with Stupid<\/em>); Brad Mehldau (Largo<\/em>); Rhett Miller (The Instigator<\/em>); Rufus Wainwright (Rufus Wainwright<\/em>); Robyn Hitchcock (A Star for Bram<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Jewels for Sophia<\/em>); Kanye West (Late Registration<\/em>); and Evan Dando (Baby I’m Bored<\/em>), as well as his own\u00a0Meaningless<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He has worked as a session musician on albums with Fiona Apple (Tidal<\/em>); Badly Drawn Boy (the\u00a0About a Boy<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack,\u00a0Have You Fed the Fish?<\/em>); Macy Gray (On How Life Is<\/em>); Elliott Smith (XO<\/em>,\u00a0Figure 8<\/em>); Sam Phillips (Omnipop<\/em>); The Crystal Method (Vegas<\/em>,\u00a0Tweekend<\/em>); Eels (Electro Shock Blues<\/em>); Grant Lee Buffalo (Jubilee<\/em>); Sean Watkins (26 Miles<\/em>); and Old 97’s (Fight Songs<\/em>). He has also conducted and arranged the orchestra for Tom Petty’s album\u00a0The Last DJ<\/em>, as well as for the latter’s\u00a0Live at the Olympic<\/em>\u00a0concert (recorded for DVD).<\/p>\n

Mr. Brion previously composed the music for three of Paul Thomas Anderson’s features:\u00a0Hard Eight<\/em>\u00a0(a collaboration with Michael Penn);\u00a0Punch-Drunk Love<\/em>; andMagnolia<\/em>. The latter earned\u00a0him his first Grammy Award nomination. His second came for his score for Michel Gondry’s\u00a0Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em>; the Focus Features film also earned him 2 World Soundtrack Award nominations.<\/p>\n

Among the other movies that he has scored are Charlie Kaufman’s\u00a0Synecdoche, New York<\/em>; David O. Russell’s\u00a0I Heart Huckabees<\/em>; Peyton Reed’s\u00a0The Break-Up<\/em>; Adam McKay’s\u00a0Step Brothers<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Other Guys<\/em>; and Miranda July’s\u00a0The Future<\/em>. His upcoming releases include Judd Apatow’s\u00a0This is 40<\/em>\u00a0and Pixar’s\u00a0Umbrella Shorts<\/em>. Mr. Brion performs monthly sold-out shows at Caf\u00e9 Largo.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0ParaNorman<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0production had utilized Mr. Brion’s music from previous movies – including\u00a0Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Magnolia<\/em>\u00a0– as “temp tracks” for the early assemblages of\u00a0ParaNorman<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Brion was most receptive to the prospect of scoring his first animated feature. “I’d been waiting for the right one for some time now,” reveals the composer.<\/p>\n

The soundtrack reveals that it was worth the wait, for the composer and the\u00a0ParaNorman\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>moviemakers.<\/p>\n
