The first match between these two monstrous sluggers took place in 2005 when Peter was still an undefeated up-and-comer and Wladimir was psychologically fragile from his 3rd career knockout loss the previous year. Klitschko survived three knockdowns that night but ultimately prevailed by a clear and unanimous decision.

Since then, Peter has had ups and downs, winning the WBC strap in 2008 but then losing it later that year to Vitali Klitschko. Peter’s stock and ranking is not at the highest that it has ever been. At times he looks frustrated in the ring and never appears to have a plan B. Samuel is still a clear top 10 contender in the heavyweight division with dynamic hitting power so he deserves this opportunity as much as anyone.

Wladimir has not lost since beating Peter in 2005, using that important victory as a springboard to completely take over the division. The younger Klitschko has fought and beaten almost every notable heavyweight over the past five years. During his rampage, he managed to unify the IBF and WBO belts. Wladimir is clearly in his prime and is the man to beat in the heavyweight division. His biggest problem is the ever dwindling amount of worthy challengers to pummel.

The team of writers at RSR offer their predictions for this potentially explosive heavyweight match up.

Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett

I expect Sam Peter to at some point walk into Wladimir’s power, probably early. Wlad by KO within four bells.

Joe Wilson

The Heavyweights? This fight has all the ingredients of the last one. Same outcome. Peter has always suffered from a lack of conditioning along with being overweight. Klitschko’s conditioning is not the best, but a lot better than Peter. First 3 rounds somewhat close, but afterwards Klitschko’s jab takes over. Klitschko by TKO in Round 7.

Gina L. Caliboso

Hopefully Samuel Peter learned something new to counter the younger Klitschko. I give the nod to Peter only because I like the underdog and I want to see someone get competitive with Wladimir Klitschko. Prediction: Samuel Peter 10th round TKO.

Jeff Stoyanoff

The story of 2010 in boxing seems to have been supposedly shot fighters summoning one last great effort on their way out. Monte Barrett against David Tua and DeMarcus Corley in his bout with Marcos Maidana are the most notable examples of the developing trend. Sam Peter is not without some talent, but despite his recent wins, he certainly seems lost of late. This is his last big chance in all likelihood to do something special. I expect he will continue the recent trend and show up focused and determined in his last moment in the spotlight. However, I can’t go completely crazy here. Klitschko by late stoppage against a surprisingly game and in shape Sam Peter.

Geno McGahee

I think it’s safe to say that both fighters are better than they were when they first met. Peter has found new dedication and focus while Wlad has been dominant as of late. Peter is a huge threat to Wlad. I don’t think that Wlad can knock out a focused and properly prepared Peter. I am leaning toward the upset. Peter by TKO in 8 rounds.

Gary “Digital” Williams

I think Klitschko all the way. Peter may have the power but I don’t think he has the overall ability.

Brian Wilbur

Wladimir fought scared against a red-hot Sam Peter last time and still won. Klitschko will fight more confidently and actually step into his power punches since now he is the one who is on the hot streak, brimming with self-belief. Peter has a puncher’s chance but overcoming Wladimir’s size and skill is a tough task, making the victory unlikely. I’ll go with Wladimir Klitschko by 7th round TKO.

“Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Sam Peter by 8th round TKO! Next up, bring Vitali back and no fix this time!

Supporter of RSR

Robbie Dupree (Singer and Songwriter) www.robbiedupree.com

Wladimir Klitschko in six.
