In this interview, you will get a 180 of a fighter who wants that belt wrapped around his waist and doesn’t care who is in his way to get it.

BB: You are currently rated second in the WBC middleweight rankings and fifth in the IBF. What’s on the horizon in your boxing career?

There’s nothing signed yet but I’m only a few steps away from a world title.

BB: In your last fight, you faced tough Fernando Guerrero, who you knocked out in the third round. How would you assess your performance in that fight?

It was a great fight. I put in motion what I have been working on since day one, but since the Guerrero fight, we’ve started a new chapter.

BB: You tasted defeat for the first time in 2011 against Marco Antonio Rubio. What adjustments have you made since then? And how do you think Rubio will fair against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in their upcoming middleweight title fight?

Since Rubio, I changed everything in my career and some stuff in my life, all making me a better man today. Now, I’m ready to be the new champion this sports needs and I believe the role model youth will be inspired by, demonstrating proper values, and the face of a true leader. I see Golovkin winning this fight because he is the better fighter, but Rubio is strong and very tough, so it will be up to who wants it more to be victorious.

BB: You have been fighting as a professional for a little over 7 years now. What is the one thing that has surprised you the most about the sport of boxing?

Meeting Camille Estephan (his manager), not only in boxing but also in life, I have the upmost respect for this man. I can say this man is a family member of mine and on top of that, he is my daughter’s Godfather. You don’t find this kind of man in life twice, or even once. I’m lucky to have him as part of my life. He will be there forever.

BB: What opponent to date, do you feel was your toughest and why?

Well, I’d say Rubio was my toughest opponent but that was then, and now I’m a whole different fighter. I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

BB: What is one thing you can share with the readers about yourself outside of boxing that might surprise them?

I am crazy about my kids and they are my biggest accomplishments.

BB: If you could meet one person from any time in history, who would it be and what would your first question be for them?

Jesus Christ. What is the ultimate goal to this life and what am I here for?

BB: Do you favor a mandatory retirement fund for all boxers and if so, how do you think it can finally be accomplished?

I think it should be mandatory and it can be accomplished by everyone contributing.

BB: Finally, what is the saying you live your life by?

“Don’t waste one second in life, do everything to the fullest, and never regret what you do.”

(Interviewer’s note: I would like to thank Bob Trieger of Full Court PRESS for setting up this interview.)

David Lemieux
Division: Middleweight
Professional Record: 32-2, 30 KO’s

Date Opponent W-L-D Location Result

2014-05-24 Fernando Guerrero 26-2-0 Montreal, CA W KO 3
vacant NABF Middleweight Title
2013-11-30 Jose Miguel Torres 27-5-0 Quebec City, CA W TKO 7
2013-09-28 Marcus Upshaw 15-10-2 Montreal, CA W UD 8
2013-06-08 Robert Swierzbinski 11-1-0 Montreal, CA W KO 1

2012-12-14 Albert Ayrapetyan 20-3-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2012-10-12 Alvaro Gaona 11-1-0 Montreal, CA W KO 1
2012-06-08 Jaudiel Zepeda 12-5-1 Montreal, CA W KO 2

2011-12-10 Joachim Alcine 32-2-1 Montreal, CA L MD 12
WBC International Middleweight Title
2011-04-08 Marco Antonio Rubio 49-5-1 Montreal, CA L TKO 7

2010-12-03 Purnell Gates 18-1-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2010-10-29 Hector Camacho Jr 52-3-1 Montreal, CA W KO 1
WBC International Middleweight Title
2010-06-11 Elvin Ayala 20-4-1 Montreal, CA W KO 1
vacant WBC International Middleweight Title
2010-04-03 Walid Smichet 20-6-3 Montreal, CA W KO 2
Canada Super Middleweight Title
2010-02-06 Jason Naugler 18-11-1 Montreal, CA W UD 10
vacant Canada Super Middleweight Title

2009-12-11 Delray Raines 17-6-0 Montreal, CA W KO 2
vacant WBC Youth Intercontinental Middleweight Title
2009-11-07 Alfredo Contreras 11-6-1 Montreal, CA W KO 2
2009-10-03 Donny McCrary 24-9-2 Montreal, CA W KO 1
2009-08-28 Bladimir Hernandez Cazare 18-3-0 Montreal, CA W KO 5
2009-06-19 Martin Avila 9-5-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2009-04-18 Thomas Davis 12-9-2 Montreal, CA W KO 1
2009-03-07 Jose Luis Reyes 6-8-1 Montreal, CA W TKO 1
2009-01-30 Rogelio Sanchez 18-19-4 Montreal, CA W TKO 3

2008-11-01 Patrick Tessier 3-7-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
vacant Canada – Quebec Boxing Council (CQB) Light Middleweight Title
2008-10-04 Lance Moody 4-6-2 Montreal, CA W KO 1
2008-08-01 Ulises Duarte 16-17-1 Montreal, CA W TKO 1
2008-07-11 Oswaldo Gonzalez 1-8-1 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2008-06-06 Julio Gonzalez 7-4-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2008-05-03 Rodney Green 6-4-1 Montreal, CA W TKO 4
2008-02-09 Guillermo Cortez 2-2-0 Montreal, CA W KO 1

2007-12-07 Jesus Ortega 12-17-0 Montreal, CA W KO 1
2007-09-15 Rene Fernandez 4-4-2 Montreal, CA W KO 2
2007-06-08 Andres Lovera 1-2-0 Montreal, CA W KO 2
2007-05-12 Jose Luis Alvarez 2-8-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2
2007-04-14 Jose Candelario Torres 0-1-0 Montreal, CA W TKO 2

RSR is NOW Hiring Boxing Writers

Exclusive Interview by “Bad” Brad Berkwitt Picture courtesy of Eye of the Tiger Management “I am crazy about my kids and they are my biggest accomplishments.”—David Lemieux David Lemieux is a hard punching middleweight who is just a stone’s throw away from a title shot in his near future.
