This is Mosley’s first fight since dropping a decision to Floyd Mayweather, and his second fight since his thrilling TKO stoppage of Antonio Margarito to win the WBA Welterweight Championship. Mosley will be moving up to the 154 pound weight class; a division that Mosley is very familiar with although he had been campaigning at welterweight as of late.

Mora is also a former title holder having won a 154 pound belt against Mosley’s old rival Vernon Forrest in 2008. Mora lost the immediate rematch badly and has done little since then. Sergio became famous in the boxing world when he won a boxing reality show called “The Contender” that was aired on NBC in 2005. Mora did not exactly parlay his new found fame into a successful boxing career aside from that short lived stint as a champion after upsetting Forrest. However at 29 years old, Mora still has time to live up to his potential. A win over a legend like Mosley is a step in the right direction.

Shane is not planning to be a stepping stone for Mora however. Mosley is the betting favorite in this Los Angeles crossroads fight. Though he is getting up in age and appears to have lost a step, “Sugar” Shane is still one of the fastest and strongest boxers around with virtuous boxing ability. Mora will have his hands full but looks up for the challenge and has scored upsets in the past. Read on to see who the team of writers at RSR are picking to win.

Gina L. Caliboso

Yours truly will be sitting ringside at this event. Prediction: Mosley by unanimous decision over 12 rounds.

Geno McGahee

Mosley by unanimous decision. Mora doesn’t have the power to worry him and doesn’t have the skills to outbox him. Easy night for Shane.

Eric Fleming

I have to go with Mosley just for old time’s sake.

Mike “Rubber Warrior” Plunkett

This isn’t the best style matchup for the aging three-division champ, but I’m of the opinion he isn’t as far gone as the Mayweather episode has led some to believe and that his experience will serve him well this time out. I’m thinking that Sugar Shane finds a way to zoom the talented Latin Snake and sneak by with a close decision win.

“Bad” Brad Berkwitt

Sergio Mora wins by a boring 12 round decision, probably in the 116-112 range.

Jeff Stoyanoff

This should be an excellent fight. Mora is exactly the same size as the late Vernon Forrest, but he isn’t quite as skilled as a boxer. On the other hand, Mosley isn’t the fighter he once was either so perhaps things even out. Mosley has always been a little shaky at 154 where he has struggled at varying degrees with the bigger opponents. Mora has been in there with top competition and has shown he can compete especially if given a little edge. The age of Mosley and the higher weight represents an edge for Mora here. Mora by majority decision in a good action fight.

Brian Wilbur

I don’t like Mora’s inactivity, having fought only once over the last two years. Even though I think that Shane is past his best, and has been for some time, I still can’t find myself betting against Mosley’s experience and savvy. Mora’s edge in youth won’t be enough against a faded but not quite shot future hall of famer. Mosley by competitive decision.

RSR Supporter

Robbie Dupree www.robbiedupree.com

Shane Mosley still has led in his fists as seen in round 2 against Floyd Mayweather, JR.
