It turned out that the person calling in to MMA Junkie Radio was a man who shared the same name as Jon Jones, and this self proclaimed tech geek doesn’t shy away from his newly discovered role, which is helping others read carefully before signing on the dotted Tweet.

Before I was completely sur that the legally bogged-down Jones wasn’t truly on the line, “Gorgeous” George Garcia, the host of MMA Junkie Radio, kept the falsities alive by playing up the debacle that Jones has involved himself in: hit and run, injuring a pregnant woman, marijuana possession, stripped of the title, loss of his Reebok endorsement. Jon Jones’ response enlightened the audience as to what was going on,

“Uh, yeah, I think I’ve lost count, but I think I’m up to 10,000 Tweets, 550 new followers; all because I’m not somebody. Is it weird that I’m almost used to it?”

Along with the chance to revisit the irresponsible behavior displayed by the sidelined Jones, the Jon Jones being interviewed shared an eye-opening anecdote as to how often individuals will look before they leap. Luckily, I am yet to encounter the trolls and keyboard warrior attacks I’ve heard of on social media, but Jon Jones can attest to these digitized onslaughts because he shares the same name as an athlete in the limelight who, again, finds themselves in hot water,

“Well, it basically started out with a lot more hate. I would find out news about the other Jon Jones by stupid people Tweeting me, thinking I was him without checking first. It was when he cancelled UFC 151, I got a lot of Tweets that were like, “You suck! You’re a piece of crap! Stop using Jesus that way! What are you doing? I hate you! I hope you die! I want your family dead!’”

Over the course of many interactions with, so called fans, the whole thing has taken on a life of its own, but initially, Jon Jones would respond to those who were illiterate and colorblind with,

“What? Who wants to hurt me? Why should I die? You want me in a pool of my own blood? Oh, I’m sorry! What did I do?”

Now, the whole mistaken identity issue has become a platform for Jon Jones to assist others in stopping to smell the roses by tuning them into the fact that their fingers are getting ahead of their cognitive abilities. The whole thing seems annoying to me, but Jon Jones shared how he makes it his own,

“At this point, it’s a lot more fun because I never try to pretend that I’m actually him. It’s gotten to making fun of dumb people and smiling along with them when they realize, ‘Oh, I just got in an exchange with a guy who I didn’t even look up; I am not a very smart man.’ That part has been a lot of fun!”

In addition with fans who slip-up and embarrass themselves with minimal proofreading, multi-million dollar corporations, such as Reebok, are also capable of such clerical errors. Jon Jones recalled,

“When they [Reebok] announced that they signed Jon Jones and Ronda Rousey, they Tweeted [and tagged] me to their 500,000 followers. I got a free t-shirt out of it. They noticed I had fun batting back and forth with people Tweeting at me, so they sent me a Reebok t-shirt and care package with a really friendly note that I have hanging on my wall.”

The perks didn’t stop there, Jon Jones went on,

“I’ve had one guy reach out to me to come visit with him and his wife because they were (nudge-nudge) really big fans,”

Though this interview took an unexpected turn, at least in terms of MMA news, it was telling nonetheless. Jon Jones, a Content Curator of the Unreal Engine Marketplace of Epic Games, modeled how to confront a situation and overcome anger, stupidity, or temptation, instead of high-tailing it. As for why he doesn’t simply surrender his Twitter handle, @jonjones, he flashed back to the Michael Bolton joke in the movie Office Space,

“No way, why should I change? You’re the one who sucks!”

By Dave Madden Riding the aftershocks of the recent surge of events involving former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon “Bones” Jones, 21-1 it was a bit of a surprise to hear that Jon Jones was calling into MMA Junkie Radio to open himself up for an interview, knowing the troubles he’s netted in would be […]

[10374
12714
post-52420","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-mma-2","tag-jon-jones-shocker-well-this-one-has-bones-breaking-mma-news
["GET
