The back and forth between Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia has been rolling for months but last night the rivalry took an ugly turn.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Brazilian MMA news source, Combate, Correia said this about the champ: \u201cShe is winning, so everybody is around her cheering her up, but when she realises she is not everything that she believes she is, I don’t know what might happen. I hope she does not kill herself later on (laughs).\u201d<\/p>\n

In any case, a joke on this subject matter shows a complete lack of class but when you consider that Rousey lost her own father in such circumstances, the comments become even more objectionable. <\/p>\n

Just weeks ago, Correia made similarly distasteful remarks about her upcoming opponent: \u201c”I hope she can handle losing the title. That\u2019s my only advice for her. Learn how to lose and don\u2019t do drugs again.\u201d<\/p>\n

These comments came in the week that Ronda Rousey\u2019s autobiography, My Fight Your Fight, was published, in which she admits: \u201dsmoking and drinking heavily, often beginning her day with a cigarette and a vodka espresso” in addition to developing “a pot-and-Vicodin habit” after the 2008 Olympics.<\/p>\n

With two such nasty remarks in quick succession it is becoming apparent that Correia is willing to sacrifice her dignity in order to get under Rousey\u2019s skin.<\/p>\n

This is a shame considering the rivalry started out in good jest. After signing to the UFC, Correia soon got Rousey\u2019s attention: beating two of her close friends in succession. After beating Jessamyn Duke, Correia held up four fingers before dropping one. Then she did the same again after beating Shayna Baszler to imply that there were two of the \u2018four horsewomen\u2019 remaining.<\/p>\n

Doing this as well as making sure to call out the bantamweight champion at any given opportunity ensured that the two would face off sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

In a division that could be equally uninteresting as flyweight, with both having a completely dominant champion, \u2018Pitbull\u2019 has created a storyline that is worth following. For her self-promotion skills she must be credited.<\/p>\n

However, as effective as her words can be before the fight, inside the cage there will be none. If what Rousey has had to say in reaction is true then all of Correia\u2019s antics could make things a lot worse for her come August.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of Rousey\u2019s threats since the fight was announced: \u201dI don’t just want to defeat her. I want her to leave that arena embarrassed. And the best way to do it is to come here and to beat her in her own backyard.\u201d\u2026\u201d “This fight is about more than just an athletic competition. It’s about proving a point and punishing someone.\u201d\u2026”This fight has gone pretty personal for me and when I finish fights quickly, that’s really me at my most merciful. My dad would call it a \u2018come to Jesus meeting\u2019. I\u2019m going all the way down to Brazil to a \u2018come to Jesus meeting\u2019 with this chick. No, I\u2019m not gonna end it quickly. But not because I can\u2019t end it quickly, because I choose to.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ronda Rousey is the most aggressive, powerful and dominant woman the sport has ever seen, she needs no added motivation. But she\u2019s got some.<\/p>\n
