The first televised bout featured Derek \u201cStallion\u201d Campos, 15-5 vs. former lightweight champion \u201cIron\u201d Michael Chandler, 13-3 in a lightweight 155lb. bout.\u00a0After landing a big right hook and following with ground and pound, crowd favorite Chandler stopped Campos in round 1. Chandler \u201cbig brothered\u201d Campos, taking him down several times while Campos was totally ineffective throughout the fight. After the fight, Chandler publically called out Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks.<\/p>\n
The next bout saw formerly undefeated Henry Corrales, 12-1 faced former featherweight champion Daniel Straus, 23-6, at 145 lbs. Round 1 was a strong round for a determined-looking Straus. He hit Corrales with some big left hooks and took him down several times, almost finishing Corrales. In round 2, Straus hit Corrales with a hard left, knocking Corrales down. Straus then caught Corrales in a guillotine, ending a very dominant round for former champ Straus.<\/p>\n
Later in the evening, Bobby \u201cThe Dominator\u201d Lashley, 13-2 fought Dan \u201cThe Man\u201d Charles, 9-3 in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Lashley looked huge and muscled, easily dominating Charles with belly-to-back control, hard knee strikes to Charles\u2019 thighs, and even suplexing Charles several times. Charles had no answer at all, and Lashley easily won the round.<\/p>\n
In round 2, Lashley once again established belly-to-back control while landing strikes on Charles. In desperation, Charles grabbed the cage several times, but referee \u201cBig\u201d John McCarthy would physically swat Charles\u2019 hands away from the cage. After a couple of minutes of one-sided dominance, Lashley won by TKO by way of referee stoppage.<\/p>\n
In the co-main featherweight championship event, Daniel \u201cThe Weasel\u201d Weichel, 36-8 fought Patricio \u201cPit Bull\u201d Freire, 23-3 in a 145 lb. featherweight battle.\u00a0In round 1, Weichel landed some very hard hooks at the very end of the round. Freire was rocked, and referee \u201cBig\u201d John McCarthy stepped in to separate the fighter\u2019s right as the round ended. There was a moment of confusion as to whether McCarthy stopped the fight, or was simply signaling the end of the round. Veteran referee McCarthy handled the situation, telling the fighters to get ready for another round.<\/p>\n
In round 2, Weichel came out hard and strong against a punch-drunk Freire. It looked like Freire was about to get knocked out, when all of the sudden a miracle happened! Freire hit Weichel with a hard left hook right on the button, followed by a right hand. Weichel hit the ground hard enough that his head bounced off of the mat while his body stiffened up, causing McCarthy to stop the fight. Freire kept his belt in an electrifying and dramatic fashion.<\/p>\n
In the main event of the evening, Kimbo Slice, 5-2 age 41, fought Ken Shamrock, 28-16-2 age 51, in a catch weight match. They were supposed to have fought in the now-defunct EliteXC promotion back on October 4th, 2008, but Shamrock had to pull out of that fight at the last minute due to an injury. Almost 8 years later, both aged (I won\u2019t say aging) fighters finally attended to some unfinished business.<\/p>\n
In round 1, Shamrock tried to go to his old bread and butter ground work by taking Kimbo to the mat. Shamrock sunk in what looked like a tight and deep rear naked choke, but Kimbo refused to tap. After several seconds, Shamrock gave up the choke attempt and looked gassed out from the effort. They stood up, and Kimbo landed 2 hard right hooks before referee \u201cBig\u201d John McCarthy ended the fight. Shamrock had a visible gash over his left eye after the fight. It is noteworthy that the combined age of the fighters is 92.<\/p>\n
