Once again, true fans of the sport were given some very ugly mismatched bouts. In the first televised fight of the afternoon undefeated 154lb prospect Jermall Charlo, 22-0, 17 KO’s made easy work of a 42 year old Cornelius “K9” Brundage, 34-6, 9 KO’s . Charlo kept the pressure on Brundage from the opening bell, overpowering “K9” with straight stiff left jabs. Charlo put Brundage down in the first with a counter right for a 10-8 round. In the second, Brundage was knocked down with a straight left jab and was put down again in the third with the ref stepping in to stop the fight.

In the second televised bout journeyman Gabriel Campillo fought undefeated Light Heavyweight prospect Marcus Browne. Again another bad matchup with Browne knocking out Campillo in the first minute of the fight.

In the main event Middleweight Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, 32-0-1, 23 KO’s took on Michael Zerafa. 17-2, 9 KO’s, This was Zerafa’s American debut, and most people in the boxing community believed that he had no business in the ring with heavy handed Quillin. Zerafa stayed toe to toe with Quillin throughout the fight despite being nailed with powerful right hands and combinations. That all changed in the 5th round when Zerafa who was staggered by a combination, fell back into the ropes and took a devastating right hand from Quillin. Zefara was knocked out cold and was taken from the ring on a stretcher to a local hospital as “Kid Chocolate” amped up the arena by throwing gifts into the crowd.

Once again Al Haymon and his partners backing Premier Boxing Champions are closing a blind eye to the blatant disregard to these awful mismatches. The casual fan is so enthralled with the PBC takeover including 9 fight cards in the month of September alone, they miss what is actually happening in the ring. These fights are definitely quantity over quality bouts. May these undermatched fighters stepping into ring for peanuts be safe.

[si-contact-form form=’2′]

By Anthony “Stacks” Saldana This afternoon the one and only Al Haymon again brought fight fans another episode of his series “Premier Boxing Champions”.
