So let\u2019s talk about UFC 192, shall we? It happened back on October 3rd and I\u2019m still in shock. I was excited to see Jessica Eye vs. Julianna Pena, Ryan Bader vs. Rashad Evans, and especially Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson (let\u2019s not talk about my picks being horribly wrong that night with only one of mine winning), but I definitely wasn\u2019t prepared for the undercard. I honestly have to say, it was far more exciting than the maincard that night.<\/p>\n

The best fights, in my opinion were as follows: Albert Tumenov defeated Alan Jouban via TKO 2 minutes and 55 seconds into the 1st round; Rose Namajunas was pretty impressive by defeating Angela Hill via rear-naked choke at 2:47 of Round 1; and the absolute winner of the night was Sage Northcutt vs. Frank Trevino. No one was ready for Sage to make his debut like that\u2014least of all Frank Trevino.<\/p>\n

Sage Northcutt is a 19 year old fighter out of Katy, Texas who started in karate at the age of 4. At 6 ft tall and 155 lbs, he is fit and looks like a fitness model. Don\u2019t let his boyish good looks fool you though\u2014with a record of 6-0, he is a force to be reckoned with. Four of his wins were by KO and two by submission. Five of his six wins came in the first round. Five out of six in the first round! I\u2019m just going to let you reflect on that for a minute.<\/p>\n

Frank Trevino stepped into the cage at UFC 192 with a record of 12-1. My guess is that he thought he had an advantage over Sage since this was Northcutt\u2019s debut fight after only 6 previous matches. Any certainty that Trevino had about a win was quickly squashed as Sage came in with a vengeance. He quickly dropped Trevino to the mat and when he got back to his feet, Sage took him down again. He dropped a series of elbows and left handed punches when Herb Dean stopped the fight 57 seconds into the first round. Trevino was not happy with the stoppage and showed a little unsportsmanlike conduct but in my view, Herb did an excellent job. Letting the fight go on at that point could have been detrimental to Trevino\u2019s health.<\/p>\n

Dana White was one of the many who were impressed with Northcutt\u2019s debut performance on October 3rd. As soon as the fight was over, Dana offered Sage a contract. Sage took it all in stride. When he was asked why opponents tend to dismiss him before ever getting into the cage with him he replied, \u201cIt could be the hair. I don\u2019t know, maybe it\u2019s the hair?\u201d I can\u2019t wait to see what Northcutt is going to do in the future. This 19 year old seems to have it all\u2014confidence, talent, heart and ability\u2014and don\u2019t forget the hair.<\/p>\n
