Wladimir Klitschko\u2019s nearly 10 year reign came to a close tonight as he was outpointed by challenger Tyson Fury over the course of 36 utterly forgettable minutes. Wladimir looked lifeless as the challenger dominated and outhustled him from the start, staggering him in the 11th and winning a convincing 12 round decision. The lack of action in this one was illustrated by the fact that both fighters combined to land only 135 punches, nearly 100 less than in the Mayweather-Pacquiao dud this past May.<\/p>\n

The judges scored unanimously for Fury: 116-111 (twice) and 115-112. However, in reality, this fight was far more one-sided with Klitschko winning 1 or 2 rounds at best. Fury is a decent fighter but this one was more about Wladimir\u2019s complete ineptitude. One might have suspected the hourglass might be running out in his previous defense against Bryant Jennings and this was definitively confirmed on this particular evening in Dusseldorf, Germany. Fury\u2019s numerous technical flaws presented opportunities that an aging Klitschko simply couldn\u2019t take advantage of. As a viewer, one kept expecting a devastating right from Wladimir. However, it never came and Fury walked away with the title.<\/p>\n

With the win, Fury captures the WBA, WBO, and IBF Heavyweight champion and improves his record to 25-0, 18 KOs. He is an interesting and colorful character which is good for boxing. However, both his chin and his defense are highly suspect which leads one to be skeptical of his long-term prospects. Klitschko drops to 64-4, 53 KOs. He will likely be granted a rematch which is about as appealing as a trip to the proctologist.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

To sum this one up in a word, yaaawwwwwn! Who needs Nytol when we have the modern Heavyweight division?<\/p>\n
