Hi all, it\u2019s been a couple of weeks since I\u2019ve weighed in on the current boxing scene and much has happened. Here are my thoughts.<\/p>\n

Canelo defeats Cotto\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canelo Alvarez came away with a unanimous decision win in his highly anticipated matchup with Miguel Cotto a week ago Saturday night. Don\u2019t get me wrong, it was a nice win for Canelo but I wasn\u2019t exactly blown away. I thought Cotto gave Canelo a boxing lesson over the first half of the fight. However, in the end, Alvarez was just too strong for him. Canelo did just enough to win and that\u2019s about it. I had it 7-5 in rounds. <\/p>\n

Now talks shift to a potential matchup between Canelo and GGG. This would be a blockbuster financially but I saw nothing in this fight that leads me believe Canelo would have a chance. Golovkin is far too powerful and dynamic and I cannot think of a single advantage that Alvarez would have in the ring. Whether the fight is at 160, 157 or 155, GGG kicks Canelo\u2019s ass, period!<\/p>\n

The Winner and New Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Excuse me for a second\u2026\u2026Yaaawwwwwn! Ok, now I\u2019m ready. There was a time where the crowning of a new Heavyweight champion would have been page one material for the Sunday paper, even on an NFL Sunday. However, Tyson Fury\u2019s victory over future hall of famer Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday has barely received mention in the mainstream media. Thus is the state of affairs in the modern Heavyweight division.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still not sure if he can fight or not but I\u2019ll give Fury this, he\u2019s entertaining. This was the first time I\u2019ve ever seen karaoke performed in the center of the ring after a championship fight! Perhaps an appearance on \u201cThe Voice\u201d or \u201cDancing with the Stars\u201d is next. Hell, he can\u2019t be any worse that Sugar Ray Leonard was on that show. Tyson Fury will likely be only a placeholder in Heavyweight Boxing history but it might be fun to watch while it lasts.<\/p>\n

RIP Bob Foster…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kudos to my RSR colleague Ian \u201cThe Boxing Historian\u201d Murphy for his tribute to Bob Foster. Ian I agree with everything you said. This guy was an absolute beast in his prime and must be included on the short list of any legitimate discussion of the greatest Light Heavyweights of all time. He would wipe the floor with the Light Heavyweights of today, without question.<\/p>\n

NFL Thoughts of the Week: The Carolina Panthers\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Who would have predicted the Carolina Panthers would be the NFL\u2019s last remaining undefeated team at 11-0. They are powered by a defense that ranks second in the NFL. I don\u2019t think they\u2019ll run the table but will almost certainly be the NFC\u2019s #1 seed. Their chief competition in the NFC appears to be the Arizona Cardinals. The 9-2 Cardinals rank 1st in the NFL in total offense, 3rd in total defense and Carson Palmer is having a career season. After that, the pickings are slim but let\u2019s not write the Seahawks off just yet. This is a team with championship talent and, if they make it, could be very dangerous come playoff time. In spite of Sunday\u2019s loss to the Broncos, I still believe the Patriots are the class of the AFC (if they can get healthy by the playoffs). It will be interesting to see what happens come January.<\/p>\n
