It’s playoff time! Over the next month, the NFL’s 12 best teams will vie in a single elimination tournament for the right to be called Super Bowl Champions. The games start this Saturday and Sunday with the Wild Card Round. Here are my picks for this weekend’s matchups.

Kansas City Chiefs (11-5) at Houston Texans (9-7)

The Chiefs and Texans face off in a battle of overachieving AFC playoff teams. In my view, neither team has firepower to get to the big dance. That said, I trust Alex Smith much more than either Brian Hoyer or Brandon Weeden. The Chiefs are far superior to the Texans and will advance to the divisional round.

Kansas City 21 Houston 10

Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) at Cincinnati Bengals (12-4)

Without Andy Dalton, the Bengals just won’t be able to score enough points to fend off the high powered Steelers. Cincinnati will go home again after a 1st round playoff loss for the 5th consecutive year. I also believe Pittsburgh will go on to beat Denver in the divisional round.

Pittsburgh 28 Cincinnati 23

Seattle Seahawks (10-6) at Minnesota Vikings (11-5)

We’ve seen this movie before with the Seahawks throttling the Vikings in Week 13, 38-7. Nothing has changed that would lead me to believe the outcome on Sunday will be any different. Seattle’s defense shuts down Adrian Peterson again and they win in a rout!

Seattle 35 Minnesota 10

Green Bay Packers (10-6) at Washington Redskins (9-7)

Just a few weeks ago, the idea of the Redskins defeating the Packers in a head to head matchup would have seemed preposterous. Kirk Cousins over Aaron Rodgers are you kidding me? However, the Packers have been utterly atrocious late in the season while the Redskins have been impressive in winning four in a row. Sunday will mark Washington’s fifth straight win.

Washington 21 Green Bay 17

So those are my picks for Wildcard Weekend. As far as Super Bowl 50, my preliminary prediction is the Arizona Cardinals over the New England Patriots 35-31. But don’t hold me to that. Like all great prognosticators, I reserve the right to change my mind!

[si-contact-form form=’1′]

By Dave “Mythical” Siderski NFL fans our favorite time of the year has arrived.
