Mark Hunt ended former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir’s night with a thunderous overhand right. Mark Hunt, a former kickboxing champion, came into the fight a slight favorite over the resurging Frank Mir and he didn’t disappoint since most pundits predict his method of winning; his powerful right hand. The “Super Samoan” Hunt had no secrets with what his game plan would be Vs Mir and voila, the overhand right from down under came crashing into Mir’s face with 2:01 left in the first round (fight was scheduled to 3 five-minute rounds).

Mir didn’t know what hit him up until Marc Goddard, the referee, had seen enough to merit a stoppage. Mir had no answer for the right hand, clearly Mir’s gameplan was to take Hunt down and attempt to dominate the striker in Hunt to the ground but to no avail, such mistake ended badly for Mir.

For Mark Hunt’s part, the stoppage was predictable since he is known for one-shot stoppages and sprinkle that with a walk-off.

“Frank was still in the dark when he I saw him [after landing the punch],” Hunt said during the post-fight press-con. “His face was still…he wasn’t there so I just left it. He wasn’t there. He was out, somewhere else.” which elicited laughter from the crowd.

Moving forward Hunt said he wanted to fight top 5 opponents specifically those fighters he lost to such as Junior Dos Santos and current heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.

“I’d fight any of the top guys,” Hunt said. “I could rematch any of those guys – JDS, Stipe [Miocic, current contender for the title], the guy with the belt…Fabricio…I’ve never lost a rematch, so I’d like to rematch any one of those guys.”

With his performance against Mir, Mark Hunt cemented his place among the elites, proving he still has what it takes to make a run for the title.

With that fight in the books, Mark Hunt advances to a 12-10-1 record on back-to-back wins, while Frank Mir has to settle with 18-11 on back-to-back losses.

[si-contact-form form=’2′]

By JM “Shade” Daguio UFC fight night 85 which was held in Brisbane, Australia, ended with a sudden thud and a walk-off.
