\"D<\/a>Heavyweight boxing champion David Haye has proved that he’s\u00a0as kind as he is strong by starring in a new PETA U.K. campaign\u00a0promoting the knockout power of vegan meals. In the ad (available\u00a0here), he appears with his fists up in a boxing stance next to the\u00a0words “I’m David Haye, and I Eat Vegan.”\u00a0In an exclusive video interview with PETA U.K.\u2014whose motto reads, in\u00a0part, that “animals are not ours to eat”\u2014Haye speaks passionately\u00a0about his performance in the ring since ditching meat: “I’ve put on\u00a0good lean muscle, feel strong, healthy, no injuries.” He explains how\u00a0he made the decision to eat vegan after watching the documentary\u00a0Earthlings, which “kind of hit home about \u2026 the unnecessary amounts\u00a0of killing of animals.”<\/p>\n

And The Hayemaker discovered some unexpected bonuses the moment he cut\u00a0meat, eggs, and dairy foods from his diet: “I felt healthier, I felt\u00a0cleaner, lighter. \u2026 I woke up brighter in the mornings, fresher.” He\u00a0recalls how before going vegan, he would want to “crash out and go to\u00a0sleep” after a meal, but now when he eats, he feels “more awake and\u00a0perked up.”\u00a0Going vegan is a great way to improve your health, as vegans are less\u00a0prone to suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, and\u00a0obesity than meat-eaters are. And each person who goes vegan prevents\u00a0more than 100 animals every year from being killed on factory farms,\u00a0in slaughterhouses, and on the decks of fishing boats.<\/p>\n

Haye joins a growing list of athletes\u2014including British boxer Nathan\u00a0Cleverly, welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley, professional\u00a0wrestler Austin Aries, and mixed martial artist Jake Shields\u2014who\u00a0have teamed up with PETA or PETA U.K. to promote kindness to animals.<\/p>\n
