{"id":63447,"date":"2016-09-26T15:58:53","date_gmt":"2016-09-26T20:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=63447"},"modified":"2016-09-26T15:59:30","modified_gmt":"2016-09-26T20:59:30","slug":"nathan-cleverly-is-gunning-for-juergen-brahemer-saturday-night-boxing-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=63447","title":{"rendered":"Nathan Cleverly is GUNNING For Juergen Brahemer Saturday Night &#8211; Boxing News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=63447\" rel=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/?p=63447\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-63448 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/ringsidereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/c3377c89-e3e0-46c5-8898-c09b1f68c8cb-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Br\u00e4hmer vs. Cleverly - Pressekonferenz in Hamburg: Nathan Cleverly\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Photo Credit Public Address<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nathan Cleverly (29-3, 15 KOs) believes it is his \u2018destiny\u2019 to beat Juergen Braehmer (48-2, 35 KOs) and be crowned WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Cleverly was scheduled to meet Braehmer for the WBO title in 2011, but with only days to go before the Welshman\u2019s first World title challenge, Braehmer withdrew, leaving Cleverly to fight Aleksy Kuziemski for the vacant belt.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019I was in the car on my way to London when I got the call saying Braehmer hadn\u2019t arrived and the fight was off,\u2019\u2019 recalls Cleverly. \u2018\u2019It was a crazy situation, and the scramble was on to find a replacement opponent in just two days.\u2019\u2019<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Cleverly would defeat Kuziemski and go on to defend the WBO World title on four occasions before dropping the belt to Russian powerhouse Sergey Kovalev, but despite achieving his ultimate ambition that night at The O2 in London, the 29 year-old admits that Braehmer\u2019s withdrawal amounted to a bittersweet victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019It did take the shine off my World title win,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u2018\u2019I wanted to rip that title off Braehmer. He was the World Champion and I wanted to win the belt from him. Unfortunately it didn\u2019t work out that way, and although ultimately, I achieved my dream of becoming World Champion, it was a bit unsatisfactory.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Five years on, Cleverly will finally get his chance to meet Braehmer for the World title, in a fight the boxer from Caerphilly believes he is destined to win.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019This fight has been five years in the making, and with everything that has happened, I just feel it\u2019s my destiny now,\u2019\u2019 he says.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019Braehmer has had a great career, and I respect him for that, but there comes a time when the older Champion has to move aside and make way for the younger lion to come through. I was confident of beating him five years ago, but I feel even more confident now. It\u2019s my time, and that belt is mine for the taking.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>If Cleverly can overcome his long-standing rival, he will become a two-time World Champion, a feat he hopes will kick-start a successful second phase of his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019It\u2019s all about getting that belt and becoming a two-time World Champion,\u2019\u2019 he says. \u2018\u2019That\u2019s all I care about. It\u2019s an opportunity for me to live that dream again. I did it once as 24 year-old, and here I am as a 29 year-old ready to relive it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019I just want the opportunity to get my hands on that belt and to fulfil my ultimate potential.
