<\/a>By Jose \u201cSilensachi\u201d Batista<\/strong><\/p>\nIt’s always the same song and dance, we get pumped for a huge big time fight and we rarely get it without going backwards first. Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs were on a collision course to determine who is the best middleweight on the planet. Golovkin is ranked # 1 while Daniel Jacobs is ranked # 2 according to Boxrec.<\/p>\n
The bout was originally slated to take place December 10th as Madison Square Garden was the venue on hold for the event. The negotiations however are at a standstill for now which is a black eye for the sport at the moment. The fight could have been one of the better one’s in a very underwhelming year of boxing. <\/p>\n
There is a silver lining however amid the chaos, the bout may take place in the first quarter of 2017. This is clearly good news as we get a scenario of better late than never if the bout does indeed take place.<\/p>\n
Golovkin, 36-0, 33 KO’s was entitled to 75% of the purse bid if it would have happened. Jacobs, 32-1, 29 KO’s was entitled to the smaller portion of 25%. Before some critics jump to conclusion about one of the camps pulling out this was a mutual agreement from both of the fighter\u2019s camps.<\/p>\n
“Once the WBA made their ruling to uphold their standard split, it became just a matter of still talking to Al and trying to finalize a deal, but it’s just too late now for the fight to be on Dec. 10,” Loeffler said. “We had Madison Square Garden on hold, and they’ve been a good partner to us, so I don’t like having to leave them with an open Saturday night. HBO also was ready to go, but we are going to push it back into early 2017.”<\/p>\n
“By the time contracts are signed and fighters are in training camp, it just wasn’t realistic to keep the December date, unfortunately,” Loeffler said. “If we had the contracts signed today, OK, maybe we could do it. But we’re not there yet. The contract isn’t signed and there’s no telling when it would be signed.”<\/p>\n
The fight not happening towards the end of the year may be a letdown for the fans, but it is also a letdown for all parties involved as well. It will be a complete disaster if the fight never gets made, however, we still have hope that the fight gets done.<\/p>\n
The fighter\u2019s camps will be able to work on the negotiations for a bigger amount of money rather than leaving it to chance via purse bid. The fighters will also have a full training camp, one thing is for certain when these two bulls lock horns there will be no excuses on fight night. It’s better to see this one a few months later than to have it become one of those what if fights that will haunt us forever.<\/p>\n
