I have been hearing about possible match ups against the Filipino icon with the top fighters in the Welterweight division. There is also talk about him fighting Lomachenko in the near future. Any of the top fighters against Pacquiao would be great for the sport and we should enjoy it as long as it lasts. Also, I’m sure Pacquiao is looking for the biggest fight he can get, which brings me to the money man Floyd Mayweather, JR. Sure Mayweather, JR. is not being mentioned as a possible future opponent as he is retired and a lot of fans were disappointed in their 1st fight. Understood. However, I guarantee if these two future hall of famers match up, it would still do good numbers.

Let’s face it. If Pacquiao wants to cash in again, the fight that would make the most sense financially, would be a rematch with Mayweather, JR. Mayweather, JR. has gone on record and said he’s retired but we heard that story before. With Pacquiao back in the picture and now he’s a world champion, I can see Floyd coming back for one more big money fight. Fans can say all they want and criticize the idea of a rematch, but I know most would still watch it. For example, I remember a lot of fans telling me they had no interest in their 1st fight because it took too long to make the fight. The result? The fight shattered all the records with 4.6 million pay-per-view buys. So much for no interest, right? I’m not saying a rematch would do those kinds of numbers again, but I still think it can do at least about 2 million pay-per-view buys. With the right buildup, this can be another huge event again. Love him or hate him, many people still buy Mayweather, JR. fights. Just look at the pay-per-view buys last year when he fought MMA star Conor McGregor. Even though the fight was a joke, it was a success with 4.3 million pay-per-view buys.

Ok so let’s say the rematch happens, who wins?

Many fans will be thinking, why should there be a rematch if Mayweather, JR. beat Pacquiao by unanimous decision? Simple. Nobody in my opinion won their 1st fight and I scored the fight a draw. Let’s put it this way, the fight was so dull and disappointing, that the scoring was overlooked. Neither fighter did much to me. Pacquiao was less active as usual and Mayweather, JR. did more running as usual. More rounds should have been awarded to Pacquiao based on his aggression and also where Mayweather just played defensive. Mayweather, JR.’s defense was great in the fight, but he did not countered as much. Like in all his fights the HBO/Showtime commentators didn’t help either and were very biased towards Mayweather, JR.

The scorecards were terrible and Dave Moretti’s scorecard of 118-110 was really bad. He only awarded Pacquiao two rounds in the fight. How come this judge was not roasted like Adalaide Byrd for the terrible scorecard she produced in the Canelo Vs “GGG” fight last year? If you still think Mayweather, JR. won, that’s fine, but it was no way a decisive victory for him. If you watch the fight without the sound, you will have a different perspective of the fight. This is why I don’t think a rematch would be such a bad idea. Both fighters are older now and at the end of their careers. So why not make a farewell fight doing it one last time? If they were to have a rematch, I still say it’s a 50-50 fight. Let’s just hope the fight would be more entertaining this time around.

[si-contact-form form=’2′]

[AdSense-A] By Rich “Lite It Up” Lopez As of lately there has been a lot of buzz about Manny Pacquiao’s return and how great he looked when he stopped Lucas Matthysse.
