I am sure you have heard of the tales dear Senator Lindsey Graham is weaving about opening \u201cPandora\u2019s Box\u201d if witnesses are called for the impeachment trial. I must hand it to him\u2026it must be a monumental challenge to concoct even more nonsense and spin. The spin is so powerful that it just may create a new black hole within the earth\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p>\n
According to Merriam-Webster, the Pandora\u2019s Box legend goes as follows: \u201cThe god Prometheus stole fire from heaven to give to the human race, which originally consisted only of men. To punish humanity, the other gods created the first woman, the beautiful Pandora. As a gift, Zeus gave her a box, which she was told never to open. However, as soon as he was out of sight she took off the lid, and out swarmed all the troubles of the world, never to be recaptured. Only Hope was left in the box, stuck under the lid. Anything that looks ordinary but may produce unpredictable harmful results can thus be called a Pandora’s box.\u201d<\/p>\n
I hope that Hope is somehow let out of the box in that a conviction is the final verdict for the orange monstrosity who eagerly unleashed the rest of the box\u2019s contents upon the Capitol on January 6, 2020 as well upon our democracy for four terrible years. Coming back to reality, and recognizing that 45 Republican Senators already voted alongside Rand Paul\u2019s last grasped straw to deem the trial unconstitutional, I feel as though hope for a conviction just may not equate with an actual conviction. Those Senators have lost their moral judgment and dignity a long, long time ago\u2026there is no hope for them.<\/p>\n
But, getting back to Lindsey, Lindsey, Lindsey\u2026<\/p>\n
He recently stated in an interview on Faux News that if impeachment witnesses are called to testify, then the orange monstrosity will also be allowed to call witnesses in his defense and lead to a lengthy trial. I see absolutely no problem with this. I would love to see the MyPillow guy take to the stand so the world can hear his crazy theories about Dominion voting machines taking over the election (and likely the world), to then be sued. I would love to see him call the \u201cQAnon shaman\u201d so he can complain about not receiving organic hors d\u2019oeuvres during the insurrection, thus leading to gastrointestinal distress causing insurrectionists to not be able to hold their bowels, thus explaining away excrement smeared on the walls of the Capitol. I would love to see the testimony of Roger Stone explaining away his statement \u201cfight until the bitter end\u201d while videos of him surrounded by white supremacists as his bodyguards was actually a signal for \u201cpeaceful\u201d demonstration. I would love to see him call insurrectionists who chanted, on video, that \u201cour president wants us here\u201d. [insert seventeen eyes looking left emojis here] I would love to see him call Oil Spill Rudy Giuliani to explain his phone calls to legislators DURING the insurrection asking them to delay the counting of the electoral vote, not to mention calling the defendant to the stand to explain partaking in the said same action.<\/p>\n
Yet, in all seriousness, Lindsey Graham may be frightened of a few things. One, according to the Washington Post: \u201cGraham focused on the idea that Trump\u2019s defense would then call witnesses that could reinforce that certain elements of the Capitol siege planned and coordinated the attack beforehand. \u2018There\u2019s mounting evidence that the people came to Washington preplanned the attack before the president ever spoke,\u2019 Graham said. He added: \u2018If you open up that can of worms, we\u2019ll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people preplanned this attack and what happened with the security footprint of the Capitol. You open up Pandora\u2019s box if you call one witness.\u2019\u201d Which is odd, because prior to the attack on the Capitol, there is insurmountable evidence that the orange monstrosity called upon his supporters to attend the \u201cStop the Steal\u201d rally, and for weeks beforehand conspired to provide \u201cproof\u201d that the election was stolen, including the damning phone call made between himself and Georgia political figures looking for 11,780 votes and threatening them in the process.<\/p>\n
Addtionally, the Wall Street Journal discussed that the orange monstrosity interfered with the Department of Justice by requesting the Department to appeal directly the Supreme Court to invalidate President Biden\u2019s election win. The New York Times\u2019s article \u201c77 Days: Trump\u2019s Campaign to Subvert the Election\u201d includes overwhelming evidence as to the players involved in the entire big lie regarding voter fraud that the orange monstrosity conceived and willingly participated in, which you can read here: https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/31\/us\/trump-election-lie.html . There is no shortage of witnesses that the orange monstrosity\u2019s defense team can call to the stand to either tell the truth\u2026or risk perjuring themselves.<\/p>\n
I would not mind a long trial with multiple witnesses, because the entire world should be privy to the Pandora\u2019s Box that the orange monstrosity so insidiously unleashed, aided and abetted by some of the same Senators that will serve as jurors during the trial. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.<\/p>\n
Hang in there, Hope\u2026our democracy is working hard to release you.<\/p>\n
