Evander Holyfield Vs Brian Nielsen: PPV Heavyweight Boxing Showdown

By Geno McGahee

For those of you not renting Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley, there is another boxing PPV slated for Saturday night featuring former heavyweight champion, Evander Holyfield, 43-10-2, 28 KO’s, taking on Brian Nielsen, 63-2, 43 KO’s, in a 12 round heavyweight fight.

At 48, Holyfield has nothing left, and may not have anything left in his bank account, which is why he is still fighting. In his last fight, he quit against Sherman Williams, but the home field promotion was able to save Evander’s record and ranking and called it a “no contest.” Anyone that saw that fight knows that Holyfield was on his way out. His shot reflexes made him easy prey for Williams.

Holyfield is 5-5 with 1 NC in his last 11 fights, and his victories were over former name fighters without much left like Lou Savarese, Fres Oquendo, and Frans Botha. He says that a win over Nielsen will launch him into a title fight with one of the Klitschkos or David Haye. Let’s hope he loses because if he does get a fight with any current champion, they will have to keep the ambulance running.

Across the ring, Nielsen, a man that has been on the shelf for 9 years, and is most known for being a walking heavy bag for Mike Tyson, losing by TKO in 7. Nielsen, despite his unimpressive physique and style, does have some notable wins. He defeated Tim Witherspoon (TKO-4), Larry Holmes (SD-12), Tony Tubbs (TKO-4), Jeremy Williams (TKO-5), and Orlin Norris (UD-12). He will be looking to add another former champion’s name to his list of wins, and don’t rule him out. Despite his 9 year hiatus from the sport, he still has a chance considering the non-existent reflexes of Holyfield.

Like every other Holyfield PPV card, the undercard is a joke. Let’s hope they keep the Ray Charles impersonator at home this time.
