Five-time heavyweight boxing champion of the world Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield will be the featured guest at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing Champions Banquet on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 6 p.m., at the Mobile Convention Center. The boxing legend will arrive in Mobile on Friday, August 5 in time to watch the final round action of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing before speaking on Saturday night.

Holyfield enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, which culminated in a bronze medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Born in Atmore, Alabama, Holyfield is considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, and is the only boxer to defeat Mike Tyson twice. He currently owns a professional record of 44-10.

A boxing icon, Holyfield remains active in not only his community in Atlanta, but continues to serve as a source of inspiration for amateur boxers hoping to follow in his footsteps. At both the local and national level, Holyfield maintains a strong presence in the boxing world and will be attending his second straight U.S. Olympic Team Trials when he travels to Mobile for the upcoming event.

Evander Holyfield and the Champions Banquet will round out a full week of events with the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing and 2011 Junior Olympic National Championships being held at the Mobile Civic Center, July 31- August 6. The U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Men’s Boxing will be a double elimination tournament showcasing boxers in each of the 10 men’s Olympic weight divisions.

The 10 Olympic Trials Boxing champions will represent the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan in September where they will look to qualify internationally for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
