Alexander Povetkin: FIGHTING WORDS

Unbeaten Olympic gold medalist Alexander Povetkin (21-0, 15 KOs) has had to overcome several setbacks in recent years, including having two fights with heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, first because of an foot injury, and then when trainer Teddy Atlas abruptly pulled him out of the rescheduled fight because he felt Alexander was not ready. In addition, his father passed away.

Friends and family helped Povetkin pull through these disappointments and a renewed Povetkin has been preparing for four months for his next fight against Ruslan Chagaev on August 27th for the WBA regular version of the world championship. “I have great respect for my opponent, but I will win,” promised Povetkin.

“First the title, then the Klitschkos! I’ve always dreamed of a fight against Wladimir Klitschko.” With a win over Chagaev, Povetkin could get a third chance to face Wladimir Klitschko, who is the reigning WBA super champion, as well as the IBF and WBO heavyweight champion, in the spring of 2013.
