Marcos Maidana – Petr Petrov READY TO FIGHT

With a press conference held yesterday, WBA Super Lightweight champion Marcos Maidana officially launched his first defense of the title that will take this Friday 23 in Buenos Aires, against Russian Petr Petrov. “I’m delighted to be fighting before my own people. After Robert Guerrero got injured and cancelled our fight last minute we decided to go ahead and fight in Argentina. Petrov is a very skillful fighter and will give a great fight,” Maidana said.

“I know Maidana very well since I usually watch him. He has a name in the business but I’m in Argentina for no holiday. I’m here to win. I’m not gonna tell how I will. But I can tell you that I have the tools to take the title home,” said Petrov, who lives in Spain and is under the guidance of trainer Ricardo Sanchez Atocha.

“Unlike many others that proclaimed themselves great fighters Petrov was the only one who had the balls to take this fight and you can tell that he is in great shape,” Maidana’s advisor Sebastian Contursi said.

“People wants to see me knocking out my opponents and sometimes that not that easy. But I always try. I’ll win, hopefully by KO so everyone keeps satisfied,” Maidana added.

Asked about possible rematches with Amir Khan and Erik Morales, Maidana said: “Now I’m totally focused on Petrov. But I’ve always said that fight anybody for the right money.”
