Exclusive Interview by Marc Anthony

“I want to be a big star in boxing, like De La Hoya was…like Manny Pacquiao is and Showtime has given me the platform to do so. Thank you Showtime!” – Lucian Bute

Canadian crowd sell out sensation and IBF Super Middleweight World Champion, Lucian Bute, 29-0, 24 KO’s, made his pro debut on November 2003 raking a TKO victory over American Norman Johnson at the Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec. After that fight Bute went on a 14 KO win streak not until 2006 when he faced Andre Thysee was an opponent able to see the final bell. Bute won that fight by Unanimous decision. Bute is currently undefeated and on a 6 KO win streak and is set to face the very tough Super Six veteran Glen Johnson at Pepsi Coliseum, Quebec City, Quebec.

As Boxing history has shown us when friends fight they usually bring out the best in one another. Sometimes they can be very brutal and most often a very passionate fight. Both respect each other but have also made it known that they take their sport very serious and will not hold back.

This championship fight can be seen live on Showtime Championship Boxing Saturday night.

Lucian Bute speaks with RSR on his upcoming fight and desire to further his presence in the US

MA: How important is it to develop even more fans in the USA market?

This is very important for me. One of the biggest reasons I re-signed with InterBox in 2008 is because they guaranteed me that I would get US exposure. They said as long as I kept winning they would take care of the rest. I want to be a big star in boxing, like De La Hoya was…like Manny Pacquiao is and Showtime has given me the platform to do so. Thank you Showtime!

MA: Is there a French team of journalists doing a documentary on you? Did you have to make adjustment to your training camp?

Yes, there was for my fight in Romania last July against Mendy. TVA, a leading network in Quebec taped a 5-episode documentary on my preparation for the fight and they are airing it now before my fight with Glen. No adjustment to my camp whatsoever. It’s like they were not even there. Towards the end, I would bump into them because I did not see them at all.

MA: Does it bring a smile that you helped bring a good payday and more exposure to your good friend Glen Johnson?

Trust me, Glen will be working for his payday, and so will I. I did not give him anything. He earned this payday with a good performance against Froch and his win over Green.

MA: How are the fans in Canada like?

They are amazing. They really follow your career, and want you to do well. They are very respectful. This is the best part. They see you having dinner, or shopping, and you can see they really don`t want to bother you but I always give them a smile and then they come ask for an autograph. It`s very special.

MA: Knowing Glen and how aggressive he is, are you expecting fireworks for this fight?

Of course, I would be disappointed if there were no fireworks. I prepared for the very best Glen Johnson. I always prepare for the very best of all my opponents.

MA: If you get past Glen is there a promise from Showtime to match you up with the winner of the Super Six tournament?

Not that I am aware of. My promoter would have told me this if it were the case.

MA: Your thoughts on the Bernard Hopkins  – Chad Dawson fight?

There’s really nothing to say that hasn`t been said. Bernard looked hurt to me.

MA: A place people must see if they are visiting Canada?

Quebec City: Beautiful, quaint City with amazing people. Montreal is great too.

MA: Would you like to unify all the belts?

Of course, this is one of my dreams since I was a kid.

MA: A message to the RSR readers?

Thanks for reading, and don`t miss my fight on Showtime Championship Boxing this Saturday night. Thank you!
