RSR Boxing Results: ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights

By Geno McGahee

Junior middleweight Sherzod Husanov, 15-0-1, 7 KO’s, had a tough time with Jhon Berrio, 15-7, 11 KO’s, but was able to outwork the slower fighter, winning a majority decision by scores of 98-92, 96-94, and 95-95. It wasn’t an incredibly impressive performance.

Super middleweight, Maxim Vlasov, 18-0, 9 KO’s, scored an impressive stoppage victory over former prospect, Jerson Ravelo, 20-5, 12 KO’s, when a right hand came crashing against his jaw and sent him face first to the floor, unable to continue. Ravelo made it clear that he had no ambition to slug it out or stand in front of Vlasov, as he moved and clinched. His right hand, his power punch, fell constantly short and the only effective shots he landed were body shots. Vlasov kept coming forward, corned Ravelo, and ended it.

Heavyweight Jonte Willis, 7-0, 3 KO’s, looked amateurish in his unanimous decision victory over Leo Bercier, 8-13-1, 4 KO’s, by scores of 40-35 across the board. Willis had trouble with Bercier and didn’t do much for the first couple of rounds. He was more active and clearly won but initially the better shots were landed by Bercier. In the third round, an uppercut – left hook combo sent Bercier to the floor. In the fourth, Bercier actually had a moment in the end landing some decent shots that seem to rattle Willis, but when the five second warning sounded like the final bell, Bercier lowered his hands and went to congratulate Willis on a good fight only to be hit by a left hook. It had no effect other than offending him. Willis is far from a big puncher.
